You Should Watch Hard Knocks

If you didn't watch the debut episode of Hard Knocks: Training Camp of the New York Jets I highly suggest reading my review of the first episode. If you need a single reason to watch this year's version of Hard Knocks, it's Rex Ryan. Sexy Rexy is more than enough for you to watch Hard Knocks or at least steal HBO for you can watch this show.

Sailors think Rex Ryan uses the F-Word a lot.

VIDEO OF EPICNESS: Japanese Players Can Make Great Catches

If I said the name of "Masato Akamatsu," most people not from Japan, would stare blankly and wonder "who?"  It is natural.  After all, he is an outfielder for the Hiroshima Carp and the Nippon Baseball League is not exactly big in the United States.  But despite that, Masato Akamatsu has likely just turned himself into a YouTube sensation with this fantastic home run saving catch.

Dayum. I want to go to Superman's Lair with Masato Akamatsu.

Google Gets Into Advertising For The Stanley Cup Playoffs

Later today, the Stanley Cup Playoffs will begin. During the last major American championship, you might remember that Google ran a commercial. That commercial, of course, depicted a story about Paris and all that mushy romance shit. Well, now they are really stepping up their game. Google has just released a new series of similar ads, only instead of a French romance, they advertise the Conference Quarterfinals of the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs. They have put them up on YouTube for everyone to preview and watch already before they debut tonight during the first day of the playoffs.* Sit back, relax, and enjoy the 8 best hockey ads you will ever see!

#8 Montreal Canadiens vs. #1 Washington Capitals

#7 Philadelphia Flyers vs. #2 New Jersey Devils

#6 Boston Bruins vs. #6 Buffalo Sabres

#5 Ottawa Senators vs. #4 Pittsburgh Penguins

#8 Colorado Avalanche vs. #1 San Jose Sharks

#7 Nashville Predators vs. #2 Chicago Blackhawks

#6 Los Angeles Kings vs. #3 Vancouver Olympics

#5 Detroit Red Wings vs. #4 Phoenix Coyotes

*Please. Note. Sarcasm. I made these myself by simply going to youtube.com/searchstories for shits and giggles and posted them here to entertain you. These are not real commercials. They will not air in front of a national audience tonight on Versus. Though if they would it would be totes awesome. Especially that one about the Sharks choking. Making fun of a team like that in a national TV ad is what is missing from this great society of ours.

Well it's been fun

(Guest posted by 49er16 from Keith's Sports Journal)

Well it's been fun while it lasted. JFein is expected to return from Europe today and is expected to start posting again tomorrow. I've had fun along with James Craven running FARN! while Justin has been gone. I want to thank Justin for giving me the opportunity and I hope he enjoyed himself in Europe.

I will leave you with a video making the rounds on YouTube. If you have been following wrestling in the past year, then you know Chris Jericho has been playing a heel. Jericho comes out to the ring and cuts a promo making fun of fans, current wrestlers, and former wrestlers. Well one fan took Jericho's promo a little to far and tried to attack Y2J in the ring in Greenville, South Carolina.

Video of the Day: What Has Happened to Your Life?

(Guest Posted By Keith From Keith's Sports Journal)

To say Matt Bush has fallen on hard times is an understatement. Bush has went from the 2004 MLB number one overall draft choice, to out of baseball. Now Bush has been arrested and cryed when he was put in the squad car. Needless to say this isn't the first time Bush has been in trouble with the law. And to think the Padres could of had Justin Verlander, who went right behind Bush to Detroit.

The Flag Is Raised At Citizens Bank Park

I've said this a bunch of times now, but there is no need to panic after last night's loss. The Phillies are notorious slow-starters. Let's just hope, that like in years past, the Phils find a solid groove when they need it the most and carry that groove throughout the regular season and into the post-season while avoiding injuries in the process.

FYI, I have a hall meeting tonight right at 9 so I won't be around for the very start of the broadcast tonight, but hopefully I'll make the tip time. The meeting should only last 15 minutes or so.

The Ryan Moats Police Video

This is about as depressing a video as I have ever seen. The title sets up everything so I'm going to put the 2 videos up and underneath I have a few things that I want to say about this.

Officer Powell is officially the biggest douchebag police officer in the world.
Did he not understand Ryan Moats when he pleaded several times that his mother-in-law was dying? Did he not remember that his wife left to go in the hospital because her mother was dying? Just an incredible amount of idiocy.

And to think that once it did get through his thick-brained skull that Moats' mother-in-law was dying, he still did not have any compassion. Instead he just had a casual conversation with someone about police chases.

And perhaps the most underlooked part about this whole thing is that not once did Ryan Moats request any special treatment or cite the fact that he was a "football player" as a means to get special treatment. And perhaps the saddest part about this whole thing is that the reason it is getting so much attention is because Ryan Moats is a football player.

FIRE ROBERT POWELL NOW!

Friday Links

TGIF, everyone! Here are some links that I think you should check out (especially #1, if you like bloggers tearing apart rich NFL franchise owners).

Joe Banner has some strange logic. (Russakoff Rules)

This just in: Brent Musburger is still drunk. (Awful Announcing)

The Eagles actually made a move at wide receiver! Okay, fine, it's just trading Greg Lewis to the Patriots. (ALL THINGS PHILLY SPORTS)

And now, some videos that you should check out.

A longer, better quality video of PSU's 2nd upset over the Illini.

Greg Paulus kissed a boy and he liked it!

And lastly, some classic March Madness finishes from the past few years!

Remember George Mason?

Love UCLA or hate them, their comeback win over Gonzaga was classic.

So, this is what it takes to get Jim Nantz excited!

I'll have more classic moments next Friday.

If You Think You've Seen Random Graphics Before, Wait Until You See This

This has nothing to do with sports, but this is one of the most random, most sadly hilarious things I may have ever seen. Sadly, a girl was kidnapped 8-years ago, the good news is is that they may have a suspect. I know nothing about this case, but I'm fairly certain this is the wrong suspect.

I almost feel bad for laughing, but I just can't help it. It has to be almost insulting for the family of the girl who was kidnapping, but not only did they post the picture of the suspect as a hampster, but that is easily the weirdest looking hampster I have ever seen. Why on earth would a news station even have a picture of a hampster holding a movie camera slate?

The good news is is that Rodney Stanger is not a hampster (at least not that we know of). Hopefully the girl is all right and she will be able to see her family and friends once again.

One For The (Other) Thumb

Well then, that was a fun little Super Bowl, wasn't it?

For what many people were saying would be a boring snoozefest, it turned out to be one of the most exhillerating finishes in Super Bowl history, all being capped off with one of, if not the greatest touchdown catch in Super Bowl history. Oh, and if I were a Cardinals fan I'd be a wee bit miffed at Terry McAulay. But first, courtesy of Awful Announcing and SSReporters here are a compilation of videos from the Super Bowl.

Larry Fitzgerald's go-ahead touchdown catch with a special 30-seconds of porn interrupting! (Awful Announcing)

The Exciting Conclusion of Super Bowl XLIII including the Holmes TD catch and ensuing controversial finish (Awful Announcing)

What a game and a finish. But I must say, I just do not get how that last play is not reviewed. And yes I know that Al Michaels and ESPN said that the play was "reviewed", but hardly a minute of real time elapsed from the time of the Warner fumble to Big Ben taking a knee. There is no way they could have reviewed it that quick. And even if they did, how could looking at that play take a minute? It's at worst inconclusive and at best an incomplete pass. I tend to side with the latter. Having watched it several times, unless I'm seeing something that no one else is, I see Warner's arm moving forward with full possession of the ball. Plus keep in mind the physics of the play. Woodley came from the side and hit the front of the ball. How then, does the ball end up 5-yards down the field? The only logical explanation is that the ball had some forward momentum created by Warner's arm and shoulder beginning to move forward. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but something about that last play just does not sit-well with me. Now with 5-seconds left, a 50-yard hail mary is a very unlikely play, but with Warner's arm and Fitzgerald's height advantage over the Steelers secondary, with the perfect throw, you never know what kind of magic we could have seen. But alas, we'll never know.

Congrats to the Steelers for winning a fantastic Super Bowl. It was definitley a very entertaining game, and for me, a very scary game, because with less than 4-minutes left, the score was Pittsburgh 20, Arizona 16, the same score that I had predicted in my preview 24-hours before the game. Santonio Holmes' touchdown catch will be replayed over and over for years to come, much like the Tyree catch last year. Hopefully next year's game is just as exciting. Actually forget about excitement, I just hope the Eagles are in it (and win it)!

Update: Tomorrow I'll have a Keith Olbermann-esque special comment on the officating of this game. There's just no way that game should have ended like that.

Who Ever Heard of a Tie Game Before?

The answer to that question is obviously not Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb. Here is Donny Mac at the press conference following the game.

No folks, that was not video-shopped or taken out of context. That was Donovan McNabb not knowing that games could end in a tie! He's been in the league for 10 years, including when the year the last tie occured. That third number next to the Steelers and the Falcons record didn't strike him as odd and worthy of note?

Oh wait, it gets better. Also not knowing the game ended in a tie were, Buckhalter, Desean Jackson, and Omar Gaither who even added, "I guess they changed the rules."

Yes, Omar, they changed the rules...in 1974 when the NFL first initiated one overtime period after regulation. The rules for that have been the same ever since. Before that, they just played 4 quarters and it ended as a tie then.

Also notice that all of the aforementioned players have been Eagles their entire NFL career. And who exactly is the man responsible for teaching players the rules of the NFL as rookies? Oh, Andy.....

Well, I Kinda Figured (Russakoff Rules)
