The Winner Of The Ilya Kovalchuk Sweepstakes Is.......

............The New Jersey Devils.

I'm in hockey hell right about now. Unless they just gave up Parise for Kovy. Then this would be awesome.

The price for Kovy: Oduya, Bergfors, Cormier and a 1st round pick. The Devils also get Anssi Salmela from Atlanta and the teams will swap 2nd round picks in the upcoming draft.

Here's hoping that Jacques Lemaire has problems fitting in a great offensive star like Kovy into his defensive first system in New Jersey.

Steve Coates Gets PUNKED

Thankfully for me, I was in the library as the Flyers blew a 3-1 lead in the 3rd period to lose the game 4-3 in regulation, however, one funny highlight did come from yesterday's game. And no, I am not talking about Johan Hedberg's save where he was blinded by his shirt. Instead, I am talking about the president of Comcast Spectacor, Peter Luukko, punking Steve Coates.

A couple weeks ago, Steve Coates, the rinkside analyst for the Flyers, was clipped with a hockey stick and cut across the forehead. The clip was not bad and the injury was not serious, however he was told that from now on he and all other rinkside analysts would have to wear a helmet rinkside for their own own safety. Or at least that's what he was told....

Not quite as good as sending Kyle Kendrick to Japan for a world famous hot dog eater, but funny nonetheless.

Oh, by the way, Coatesy, that helmet looked quite good on you. In fact, that first period was one of the best you've ever had! You really shouldn't have taken it off like that.....

Keith Ballard Does Something Very Few Have Ever Tried: He Knocks Out His Own Goalie

This video would actually be a lot funnier if Tomas Vokoun was not taken off the ice on a stretcher.

Ouch. While the situation is certainly a funny one, I certainly feel bad for Vokoun and wish a speedy recovery for him. I can only imagine how painful that was. Ballard obviously did not see Vokoun or anyone for that matter right in his stick's line of path, but that's what happens when you don't pay attention to what is around you. Good thing there was not a forward wearing less protection than Vokoun, otherwise that situation could have gotten real ugly real fast.
