BREAKING: Eagles Make Surprising Unsurprising Move; Cut A.J. Feeley

It was a foregone conclusion that despite making the 53-man roster, that A.J. Feeley did not have much longer in his 2nd tenure as an Eagle. There were several reports yesterday that they tried to trade him to New England, but apparently the Patriots were not interested in taking on his base salary. Having failed to do so, it appears that the Eagles will be satisfied to cut A.J. Feeley and not get anything in return. Via Jay Glazer and Fox Sports

Just when you thought all the cutdown day shockers were over, the Philadelphia Eagles are expected to make a surprising one today.

FOXSports.com has learned that the Eagles will be releasing A.J. Feeley, the quarterback made expendable not only by the addition of Michael Vick, but the league's decision to reinstate Vick for Week 3.

There had been sufficient trade talk involving Feeley since Vick arrived, but with other decent quarterbacks now available on the market, a trade became unlikely.
The fact that A.J. Feeley is no longer an Eagle is not a surprise, but it was thought that the Eagles would be able to trade him. At the same time, though, he had a $1.3 million base salary and with other, better quarterbacks in the market, it appears that teams are not interested in an at-best mediocre and inconsistent quarterback with that high of a salary.

Update: To fill the roster spot, the Eagles claimed DT Antonio Dixon off waivers from the Washington Redskins.
