Congrats, Twins!

Wow! What a baseball game. That was incredible. And while Chip Caray is a complete idiot (see "line drive....base hit" on a ball that ended up being caught and a double play on the throw out at home), that was one enjoyable game to watch. Here is your game-winning, division-winning moment, Twins fans!

Another beer please for RJBO!

Congrats Twins! Your reward after that hard fought victory is a trip to New York City where 21 hours after you popped some bubbly in the Metrodome, you've got Game 1 of the ALDS against the Yankees! Good times for the Twins, gooooooood times.

Update: Here's the video the aforementioned botched call by Caray.

I think he was trying to set up his winning call before the play even happened, but still funny. I think that he also caused a heart attack everywhere in Minnesota and Detroit, for differing reasons, of course. And that's without the excitement that was the end of that play!

  1. First, let me say, congratulations to a real baseball organization in the Twins.

As for the Mets 2.0, typical. Just typical. Those overpaid gag artists make me sick. They eased up when Morneau got hurt and it cost them. Terrible. (BTW, I'm more pissed over the Washburn trade than Manhorse's, kt; Washburn actually cost the Tigers games with horrendous pitching). This same thing happened in 2006, but they had the deodorant soap of the Wild Card to wash the stench of failure off them.

    Another beer please for RJBO!

Dear God no. I just got dropped off from the bar; it might be closer to Lary Sorensen* than Miguel Cabrera.

    *slight exaggeration

  2. I fucking missed the end of this game because I took my girlfriend out to dinner. I might break up with her because of this.

  3. @ RJBO: Lary Sorensen? I'd hate to be you tomorrow morning.

While I had the Twins winning this game (I said in the open thread that Tigers had a slight chance), there were a few points in that game where I thought the Tigers would actually stumble out of the Metrodome alive with a win. I'm pretty sure that that would have qualified as the biggest playoff back-in ever.

@ 49er16: Wow. Tonight was not the night to take your girlfriend out. This was one hell of a baseball game and arguably better than the '07 tie-breaker, a feat that not many thought would ever be accomplished.

/Realizes I may not be helping the matter.

  4. @JFein, I'm going to have a college football style open thread tomorrow for the games. I will update it throughout the day with vids, quotes and what not.

  5. @ 49er16: Lolz. I am planning on doing the same thing with an added live blog for the Phillies game, even though I'll be missing an hour and 15 minutes of it because of my 4:30 ET stats class.

  6. @JFein, just create that live blog over at my place. Then we don't have dueling live blogs. Create the thread, then I can help edit.

  7. That's cool. I have a meeting at 2:00 ET so I'll probably create it a little earlier, but I should be back for the start of the game.

  8. Just create the thread, then I will go from there.

  9. my favorite Chip Caray quote of the night: “You have to tip your cap to Jim Leyland and the Detroit Tigers, they could not hold onto a 7 game lead on September 3rd.”

  10. The second sentence should've said something to the effect of they won out over the weekend to force the playoff. If you were trying to ease the pain of the chokejob.

Looking at the highlights again, Inge was hit by that bases loaded pitch and Casilla looked to touch the plate before Laird's tag on the DP.

I'll say it again, Marsh was awful last night behind home plate. If he umpires another game this year, you know baseball is run by idiots.

  11. Oh, RJBO, I feel sorry for you. Don't worry I've seen the Capitals do this crap in the NHL since they were born. You've got company in choking dogs.

Caps lead the Islanders 3 games to 1 in the 1987 playoffs, lost game 5at home, game 6 on the road, and game 7 at home in four overtimes. That's worse to choke the last game at home.

  12. Oh, RJBO, I feel sorry for you.

Don't feel sorry for me (I sorta saw this coming a few weeks back). I feel sorry for the world being deprived of more of Brandon Inge's gritty, gutty arm tats.

  13. @Al don't forget the Tigers blew the Friday and Saturday games at home v the White Sox. it was the Twins who had to win out to force the tiebreak, including having to face the AL Cy Young frontrunner Zack Grienke and the Twins pulled it off.

  14. It's my fault the Tigers lost. I said they wrapped up the AL Central and didn't listen to RJBO.

/I'm never making a prediction again

  15. If I'm Tigers ownership, Leyland's out with the wash.
