The Boston Bruins ECHL affilate, the Reading Royals, blew an 3-0 series lead and lost to the Cincinnati Cyclones.
The Boston Bruins blew an 3-0 series lead and lost to the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Boston Celtics were up 3-0 in the series to the Orlando Magic. It is now 3-2, the Celtics have injuries, and who knows what will happen to Kendrick Perkins.
I’m a little torn here. Because on one hand, I do enjoy seeing Boston sports fall back to earth after the ridiculous decade they just had of nothing but championships, but at the same time, I do not want the Flyers comeback to be forgotten about. If the Celtics manage to make 3 for 3 this year on 3-0 series leas choke jobs by a team from or affiliated with Boston, would casual sports fans and the mainstream media forget all about the Flyers? Would it diminish the feat at all? And if you are a Flyers fan who wants their epic comeback to be remembered by more than just yourself and fellow Flyers fans (and for that matter, Bruins fans), is this a comeback/collapse that you want to see happen?

The Highlight Of The Night....
....is not a video. That game was a massacre and while my congratulations go out to the Lakers and The Pride And Joy Of Lower Merion High School, Kobe Bryant (even though the ensuing ESPN circle jerk will last for the next year), no video or highlight is worthy enough to be put on here. I put this up on the live blog, but for those who missed it or just want to see it again, let's play Find The ESPN Typo!

It must be Jeff Van Gundy's fault. He does not want you to believe that it was his brother's Magic that was losing by 12...

NBA Playoffs Day 43 Live Blog (Finals Game 5)
Tonight's game.....
Game 5: Los Angeles @ Orlando 8:00 (ABC - Mike Breen, Mark Jackson, and Jeff Van Gundy, SR: Doris Burke)
Will the Lakers win the championship tonight or will the Magic stay alive and force a trip back to the Staples Center? Enjoy the game and leave comments in the blog, unless you're Nathan and his 454,543 aliases, in which case if you do show up, I'll expose the video of you from Thursday night. And a little FYI, I may be in and out tonight (get your minds out of the gutter, not like that) and I may miss a good part of the 1st quarter.

2009 NBA Finals Schedule
It's the all Mickey Mouse NBA Finals! And Disney/ABC/ESPN probably could not be happier with the fact that people will be flocking to their neck of the woods during for the next couple weeks during the NBA Finals. With that being said, here's your official schedule for the 2009 NBA finals between the Orlando Magic and the Los Angeles Lakers!
#1 Los Angeles Lakers vs. #3 Orlando Magic
Game 1: Lakers 100-75
Game 2: Lakers 101-96 F/OT
Game 3: Magic 108-104
Game 4: Lakers 99-91 F/OT
Game 5: Lakers 99-86
Los Angeles wins the series 4-1.
Now that's more of how a finals schedule is supposed to look like! Not that emergency catastrophe of a schedule that Bettman and NBC thew together at the last minute because NBC is way too protective of their May sweeps and Bettman is a complete moron and a complete ass. And I will no longer make "it's been a long day and I'm tired" as an excuse to not live blog games. Sure there will be days when I am tired but I won't let that stop the live blogging fun. And we've got Jeff Van Gundy calling the finals of a series that his brother, Stan Van Gundy, is coaching. This should be very interesting to watch and very fun to live blog...
And yes, I am also live blogging Game 2 of the Stanley Cup tonight. I'll be sending the email out shortly and I hope to see you there.

Game 6: Cleveland @ Orlando 8:30 (TNT - Marv Albert and Doug Collins, SR: Craig Sager)
If you choose to take over the live blog, you can watch and blog on whatever you game you want. Enjoy the game (and hopefully the blog) and I'll talk to you later tonight (I'd be shocked if it's after 10:15 PM ET).
Update: It works!!! If they are around tonight, 49er16, Mookie, and/or JamesCraven can take over the live blog from standby mode even if I am not around. As just said above, I have a strong estimate that my return time will be between 10 and 10:15 (I'm seeing a 7:35 showing of Angels & Demons with friends). I will talk to you then!

LeBron James Is A Beast
Hedo Turkoglu had just hit a jumper to give the Magic a 2 point lead with 1 second left in the game. Surely the game was over, right? Even though the Cavs did call their last timeout, there's no way they can score with 1 second, right? Well, LeBron James would like to say otherwise....
Un-fucking-believeable! Then again, maybe not so much, seeing as my 13-year old brother called it. Before the Williams inbound he said, "if they give it to LeBron James, the Cavs will score". The Cavs gave it to LeBron James. This series is now tied at 1. And I bet the Lakers are feeling pretty stupid right about now about not passing it to Kobe with their one last chance and instead giving the ball to Fisher who airballed a 3 at the buzzer last night, securing the win for the Nuggets.

Dwight Howard Must Harbor some Animosity Toward The Shot Clock
Apparently it brought the Magic good luck as they hung on to win that game, 107-106 as the Magic join the Sixers and the Lakers as the only teams to beat the Cavs at home this year, although you can argue that the Sixers game is illegitimate because it was the last game of the season and the Cavs rested everyone, but a loss at home is a loss at home and you have to go buy what the standings say.

The NBA Playoffs: Where Big Baby Davis With A Game-Winning, Series Tying Jump Shot Happens
I'm pretty that this video speaks for itself.
Just an incredible finish and an incredible shot by one of the most unlikely of players to take that shot. When I saw that Davis was taking that jumper I thought for sure that the Orlando Magic were one game away from the conference finals but low and behold, it went in and the Celtics have tied the series. Unbelieveable!
Meanwhile to wrap up the day in hockey news, all 4 series are going to a Game 6! Now that's amazing! I wonder if there has ever been a conference semifinals in any sport where all 4 games have gone into a Game 7. Now if that happens, that would truly be amazing. And us viewers we would be screwed up the ass because in its infinite wisdom, the NHL has scheduled 3 of those potential Game 7s on the same day (Carolina-Boston, Vancouver-Chicago, and Detroit-Anaheim on the 14th with Caps-Pens on the 13th).

Was Yesterday The Best All Around Day In Philadelphia Sports History?
It certainly is an interesting question and one that while laughable at first, there is a point here. Obviously days where championships won take the cake despite what anyone else does, but was there ever a day where all 4 major Philadelphia teams contributed something exciting and worth talking about and celebrating? The Philadelphia Inquirer has yet to find such a day, although a couple commenters chimed in with some ideas for days tht topped this one. Here is a recap of everything that happened yesterday. First, the Eagles introduced Jaston Peters to the media (I can only find this article; no embedable video).
Raul Ibanez had a 2-run walkoff homerun that won the game for the Phillies in the bottom of the 9th.
The Flyers trounced the Penguins.
And to cap off the exciting afternoon, roughtly 7 hours after the press conference, there was this the end of the Sixers game. And now...Gus Johnson Sixers PbP man, Marc Zumoff.
Wait....did I just hear "Better Days" at the end of that video? Too funny. Well, what are your thoughts, do you think that yesterday was the best all-around day in Philly sports history? There really is no right or wrong answers here.
For more, please read this Inquirer article and the subsequent comments section underneath it.
