After a day of blowouts, here's hoping that today's games will be more exciting. We've got a Pool A showdown on ABC at 3 ET between Staten Island, NY and Warner Robins, GA and in we've also got the first game of the United States favorite Chula Vista, CA as they will be in action in primetime against Russellville, KY. Here's the rest of your schedule for the day.
Canada vs. Mexico 11:00 (Lamade Stadium - ESPN - Gary Thorne and Orel Hershiser)
Curacao vs. Venezuela 1:00 (Volunteer Stadium - ESPN - Sean McDonough and Orestes Destrade)
Warner Robins, GA vs. Staten Island, NY 3:00 (Lamade Stadium - ABC - Gary Thorne and Orel Hershiser)
Saudi Arabia vs. Japan 6:00 (Volunteer Stadium - ESPN2 - Sean McDonough and Orestes Destrade)
Russellville, KY vs. Chula Vista, CA 8:00 (Lamade Stadium - ESPN2 - Gary Thorne and Orel Hershiser)
I got your e-mail from last night. I have to wait and see what my plans are. I start a new job on Monday and I might have to work weekends. But I will see.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I will be gone until tomorrow afternoon, so enjoy your weekend.
Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteBTW, we have 2 girls competing in this year's LLWS. That's a rarity.
There is Katie Reyes from Canada and another girl, Bryn Stonehouse from Saudi Arabia.
Finally! A thriller this year! Canada and Mexico are tied at 1 as we head to the bottom of the 6th and final regulation inning.
ReplyDeleteHOLY COW!!! What a double play to send a bases loaded, 1-out situation into extra innings!
ReplyDeleteeh, the Cal Ripken World Series is better...
ReplyDelete/Baltimore'd
also, what did you think about my McDonough comment last night?
I think he's gotten over it. Even if he didn't though, he's doing a great job over at ESPN. McDonough is one of my favorites on the whole network, although I'm not so sure that LLWS is the best event for him...
ReplyDeleteAbsent-mindedly fooling around, a Georgia kid swung at an intentional pass. You won't see that every day.
ReplyDeleteJust another reason why I really like this event. You see some innocently funny stuff that you won't see anywhere else.
But mostly, I was a remember of the Elks team in 1858, er, 1958...." - Gary Thorne
ReplyDelete"1858 was a big year for me as well." - Orel Hershiser
"Born?" - Gary Thorne
"Yeah, it was the year I was born." - Orel Hershiser
BTW, they showed a great picture of Gary as a Little Leaguer. Too funny!
Just as an aside, I wonder what goes through the kids' mind as they play in front of over 10,000 people. I've been on stage before in front of a much smaller audience of hundreds, but there were always lights shining on me essentially blocking my view of the audience (if you've ever performed on stage before you might know what I mean) thus eliminating that nervousness of being in front of people (out of sight, out of mind). So I wonder what's it's like being in front of all those people in the middle of the day sans lights in the face?
ReplyDelete"It has come mighty hard in this game." - Gary Thorne
ReplyDeletemaybe it's the schedule, but Thorne seems very subdued to me, like he's taken Valium or something.
ReplyDeletealso, ESPN needs to bring Jim Palmer back.
in other news, Fox is really pushing Jeter for MVP
Thorne let loose during the Canada-Mexico game earlier today. I actually think that he was more subdued last year than he is this year. He's livened up a bit, imo. Then again, last year, he had almost all blowouts.
ReplyDeleteWould you expect Fox to push for anyone else?
Those Saudi Arabian Durley brothers are huge. I just can't imagine a 12 or 13 year old towering over me like that. And I'm no shortie like Moises either!
ReplyDelete"He's got a chance to tie the assist record for an inning, which is 3. Lot of people have it, but it's a record." - Orel Hershiser on a Russellville, KY kid.
ReplyDelete"Held by more people that live in....Russelliville, Kentucky." - Gary Thorne
"That's for sure. And that's just over 7,000." - Orel Hershiser
"Another low ball hitting golf shot. And this was the heighth of a wedge and the distance of a driver." - Orel Hershiser making no sense.
ReplyDelete8-0 Chula Vista. Wow. And to think that with all of their homeruns, the kid who has 12 HRs in his last 6 games has NOT jacked one yet tonight.
ReplyDeleteI feel I'm pretty good at spotting an LLWS winner and these Cal kids might be just that.
Oh man. I really hope someone puts up a video of Sarge's reaction to seeing a Phils fan punch out a Mets fan after he was touting how nice Citi Field was. Classic and hilarious.
ReplyDeleteAnd now Cal has gotten back-to-back-to-back solo shots. They now lead 11-0.
