The Philadelphia Eagles Have Named A Starting Linebacker

And I'm not too happy about it. Yep, you guessed it, Omar Gaither got the starting job. Ugh. From Philly's CBS affiliate, CBS3

The Philadelphia Eagles are changing their starting middle linebacker two weeks before the start of the regular season.

Omar Gaither is taking over for Joe Mays. Mays had replaced Stewart Bradley, who is out for the season with a torn ACL. Gaither was the starter in 2007.

Gaither had been bothered by a sore knee throughout training camp, but returned to practice on a limited basis last week and was out with the starting unit at practice Sunday. He will remain in that role leading up to the season opener Sept. 13 at Carolina.
While he's an all right pass defender, he is horrible against the run. And guess what is one of the main primary functions of the middle linebacker? Stopping the run! Ugh. Here's hoping he has improved big time over the past couple years.

    I think that will come back and bite them in the Ass. If he cant stop the run how will he do against Jacobs, Portis, Marion the Barbarian, Turner, LT, and Matt Forte. /Minnesota best preseason defense statistically against the pass, have most sacks, least PPG, and best defense all around'd

    Is it a sign that I need something a little more constructive in life that I'm sitting here at 12:10 am, still second-guessing the Taiwan manager from the LLWS final?

    @kt1000, no.

    I stayed up all night when the Giants lost to Colorado on Monday night. I was second-guessing everything in that game.

    Well, thats the major leagues. this is little league. and whats it like to second guess a
    Major Leaguer manager? i haven't had to that for my team in a long time :)

    @ Yopper: From what I can recall, Joe Mays did just fine in the pre-season as well in the starter. From my recollection, not once were the Eagles starters badly gashed up the middle.

    @ kt: Is it wrong? No. But is it a sign that you might need something a little more constructive? Yes. And as for second guessing the O's, um, they have been in the pits for the past several years, shouldn't everything they do be second guessed?

    organizationally, yes. the Orioles manager sucks, but when he makes questionable moves when you're 30 games out of first, i mean who cares?
