Before you moan and groan about another Vick post, just think, I almost put up a most about Adrian Beltre's injured testicle that stemmed from him not wearing a cup and a baseball taking a homerun hop, if you know what I mean.
It's been a little under 48 hours since the announcement of the Vick signing and it is quite clear that I am in the minority here in Philadelphia that thinks that acquiring Vick is a good move and that those that those protesting are defending what is in my view an absurd position to take. You've got the strong liberals and subsequent animal rights people not liking this move, and Philadelphia is a liberal city. So much so that Obama won 83-16 in Philly (the city is also itself a county) in the 08 election. And while I almost hate to bring this up and will probably regret doing so, you've almost got a loose race war where whites are strongly against the signing and blacks are more for it. Of course, that is a dangerous sweeping generalization that I just made as there are probably many exceptions such as myself, after all, I'm a white liberal and I am probably more for this move than 90% of the city.
Anyway, enough deep commentary about Philadelphia, and more of the stuff you care about. A Sal Paolantonio report on Vick's 1st practice session via All Things Philly Sports
No matter how good he looks, people here completely mocked and ridiculed Michael Vick when the story broke. He was a punchline here. And now, he's an Eagle. And while some are angry, I think On The DL said it best in that anger boils over. To all those who disagree with me about Vick and are extremely angry and are even going as far as boycotting the Eagles and not watching them this year, click on the above link and listen to The DL Podcast. Anger fades, and seriously Vick haters, take the following scenario.
It's Week 17 and it's a de facto playoff game between the Eagles and the Cowboys (yes, they do meet Week 17 this year). The game is tied 24-24 with under a minute left. Reid pulls McNabb and brings in Michael Vick out of the wildcat formation. Vick then scrambles and takes the ball 40-yards for a game-winning, playoff clinching touchdown. You're telling me that you would not cheer, be happy, and approve of Michael Vick? If you claim you won't be happy, all I will tell you is that you are so full of shit that you need to visit a hospital right now because the constipation will be claiming your life in a few minutes. Remember: this is Philadelphia and when all the smoke is cleared and it's all said and done, what player does in a Philly uniform on the field is 10,000 times more important and more meaningful to Philly fans than what happens off of it, regardless of who you are or what you did.
