And You Thought Ali Farokhmanesh Had The Shot Of The Tourney

Sadly, I don't think that honor is his anymore. What he did took a lot of balls, but I don't think there can be anything more dramatic than what Kore Lucious did to Maryland earlier today. It appeared that Greivis Vasquez had given Maryland the win and the win by hitting a basket with 6.6 left to make it a 1-point game, but thanks to some shotty Twerps defense, Michigan State was able to get the ball to a wide open Kore Lucious and who had an open look from beyond the arc. The rest is history that can be seen in this video.

Wow. What a shot by Lucious and what a win for Sparty.

But Michigan State still has problems. Kalin Lucas injured his Achilles and his unlikely to play on Friday against Ali Farokhmanesh and Northern Iowa. But if there is one thing I can tell you about Tom Izzo and Michigan State it is this: they are never an easy out. Even when half of their starters are out they are still tough to beat and UNI will face quite the challenge in the Sweet 16. I can't wait for March Madness to resume again as this weekend was just an incredible week of hoops.

  1. And we'll just overlook the OBVIOUS travel Green commits right before he passes to Lucious.

But I think a lot of teams have a right to complain about the horrendous officiating all weekend long. And the NCAA wants to add 32 more games to the Tourney?

  2. @ kt: "OBVIOUS travel"???? Whoa there. I know you are upset Maryland lost and are looking for a scapegoat in the refs as they have not been great this tourney, but Draymond Green was nowhere even close to traveling. Not even the tinfoil hatty commenters at Yahoo! are bringing that up as one of the 15,435 ways the refs screwed Maryland (don't bother reading them and believing them, I can disprove them all).

That shot was as clean as they come. Sparty beat you fair and square. Deal with it.

  3. And I'd be perfectly happy to listen to your analysis on the officiating of the game. I'll even agree it isn't the main reason Maryland lost.
I'm still incredulous that Summers and Lucious became Reggie Miller and Ray Allen for the day.

  4. The main one being floated around at Yahoo!'s The Dagger is the clock. The tinfoil hattys believe the clock started late and thus Lucious got the shot off in time where if it had been working properly, he would not have had any time. Well, first of all, it stopped a few tenths of a second late after Vasquez's basket, and secondly, that shot left Lucious's hands with .6 on the clock. You are meaning to tell me that it took a whole .6 of a second for that clock to start? No way. Add that to the fact that it the clock .4 of a second to stop after the Vasquez basket and there is just no argument there. That shot was off in time.

As far as the phantom travel, I am really having a hard time seeing how a player stopping, rotating his pivot foot, slightly leaping with the ball and landing without the ball is anything but a clean and legal basketball play. There just is no travel there, let alone anything overly obvious that it is as if the refs were blind to it.

Again, I say. Sparty broke your hearts fair and square. If you want a scapegoat, blame that piss poor defense by the Terps on that play.
