NFL Conference Finals Schedule

I love Conference Championship Sunday.  It's my favorite NFL Weekend of the year, as there are two championship games in the time it takes to celebrate and play the Super Bowl.  Regrettably, in my numerous tweets and post about SOPA, I forgot to get this up earlier, not that anything here is a real surprise.  So here's the schedule for this year's Conference Championship Sunday.  Here is hoping this year could live up to the fun we've had in year's past.

Sunday, January 22

#2 Baltimore Ravens vs. #1 New England Patriots  3:00 (CBS - Jim Nantz and Phil Simms, SR: Steve Tasker)
#4 New York Giants vs. #2 San Francisco 49ers  6:30 (Fox - Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, SR: Pam Oliver and Chris Myers)

NFL Divisional Playoffs Saturday Live Blog

It's TebowTime!  Though before we can get to TebowTime, we can watch a much more intriguing football game between the Saints and the 49ers!  If you are looking to kill time until the games start, I wrote 1,600 words on the 2011 Philadelphia Eagles season.  I don't post frequently anymore, but when I do, I make them count.  I am the most interesting blogger in the world.  Or something.

New Orleans Saints vs. San Francisco 49ers  4:30 (Fox - Kenny Albert and Daryl Johnston, SA: Tony Siragusa)

Denver Broncos vs. New England Patriots  8:00 (CBS - Jim Nantz and Phil Simms, SR: Steve Tasker)

NFL Divisional Playoffs Schedule

And you thought Tebow-mania was bad last week?  Now just wait for the hype as this weekend, and then imagine what it will be if the Broncos somehow win.  Likely the biggest blowout of the weekend aside, there are three other interesting games this weekend, including the great offense of the Saints versus the great defense of the 49ers.  This should be a fun weekend of football and live-blogging.

Saturday, January 14

#3 New Orleans Saints vs. #2 San Francisco 49ers  4:30 (Fox - Kenny Albert and Daryl Johnston, SA: Tony Siragusa)
#4 Denver Broncos vs. #1 New England Patriots  8:00 (CBS - Jim Nantz and Phil Simms, SR: Steve Tasker)

Sunday, January 15

#3 Houston Texans vs. #2 Baltimore Ravens  1:00 (CBS - Greg Gumbel and Dan Dierdorf)
#4 New York Giants vs. #1 Green Bay Packers  4:30 (Fox - Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, SR: Pam Oliver and Chris Myers)

NFC West: As Awful As Advertised

Here are some random facts and figures delineating how bad the NFC West is.

Of the 28 NFL teams outside the NFC West, 20 of them would be in 1st place if they played in the NFC West.

Net point differential (i.e. points scored - points against)
Rams: -18.
Seahawks: -66
49ers: -38
Cardinals: -125

The Arizona Cardinals are -125 in net points, and yet they are only 2 games out of 1st! The Carolina Panthers are -136 in net points, a league-wide laughing stock, and are all intents and purposes, are dead and buried for the year. Not to mention disgraced. Yet the Cardinals are 2 games out of 1st place.

No team has a winning record on the road. Hell, the best team in this department is the Rams and their road record is 2-4. That's only 33%. The Rams are alone in 1st in this department in the NFC West.

The Rams and Seahawks are tied for 1st place in the NFC West. They are each 5-6.

The teams each team in the NFC West has defeated and lost to this season.

St. Louis Rams
Wins: Redskins (5-6), Seahawks (5-6), Chargers (6-5), Panthers (1-10), Broncos (3-8)
Losses: Cardinals (3-8), Raiders (5-6), Lions (2-9), Buccaneers (7-4), 49ers (4-7), Falcons (9-2)
Teams beaten currently with a winning record: 1

Seattle Seahawks
Wins: 49ers (4-7), Chargers (6-5), Bears (8-3), Cardinals (3-8), Cardinals (3-8)
Losses: Broncos (3-8), Rams (5-6), Raiders (5-6), Giants (7-4), Saints (8-3), Chiefs (7-4)
Teams beaten currently with a winning record: 2

San Francisco 49ers
Wins: Raiders (5-6), Broncos (3-8), Rams (5-6), Cardinals (3-8)
Losses: Seahawks (5-6), Saints (8-3), Chiefs (7-4), Falcons (9-2), Eagles (7-4), Panthers (1-10), Buccaneers (7-4)
Teams beaten currently with a winning record: 0

Arizona Cardinals
Wins: Rams (5-6), Raiders (5-6), Saints (8-3)
Losses: Falcons (9-2), Chargers (6-5), Seahawks (5-6), Buccaneers (7-4), Vikings (4-7), Seahawks (5-6), Chiefs (7-4), 49ers (4-7).
Teams beaten currently with a winning record: 1

For comparison's sake, the Eagles have beaten 4 teams currently with a winning record (Jaguars, Falcons, Colts, Giants). In short, number of teams the Eagles have beaten with a winning record = the number of teams the entire NFC West has beaten with a winning record. Kind of pathetic on the part of the NFC West, eh? In order to make things fair, if the eventual NFC West "champion" loses by less than 30 in the wildcard round, it should really count as a win for said team.

I'd write more things about this terrible division, but alas, my stomach is really cramping. Excuse me while I go to the bathroom and drop an NFC West.

2010 World Series Schedule

Okay this is seriously the most painful schedule I've ever had to type. (all times ET)

World Series

NL West: San Francisco Giants vs. AL West: Texas Rangers

Game 1: October 27: Rangers vs. Giants 7:30 (Fox - Joe Buck and Tim McCarver, SR: Ken Rosenthal)
Game 2: October 28: Rangers vs. Giants 7:30 (Fox - Joe Buck and Tim McCarver, SR: Ken Rosenthal)
Game 3: October 30: Giants vs. Rangers 6:30 (Fox - Joe Buck and Tim McCarver, SR: Ken Rosenthal)
Game 4: October 31: Giants vs. Rangers 8:00 (Fox - Joe Buck and Tim McCarver, SR: Ken Rosenthal)
Game 5: November 1: Giants vs. Rangers 7:30 (Fox - Joe Buck and Tim McCarver, SR: Ken Rosenthal)
Game 6: November 3: Rangers vs. Giants 7:30 (Fox - Joe Buck and Tim McCarver, SR: Ken Rosenthal)
Game 7: November 4: Rangers vs. Giants 7:30 (Fox - Joe Buck and Tim McCarver, SR: Ken Rosenthal)

Either myself, Keith, or James Craven will have a live blog up for each of these games. If Game 4 of this series is not the lowest rated game in World Series history, I'll be very very shocked.

Eagles Week 5 Recap: "We Want Carr!"

A belated recap because I needed to finish a project after the games last night and a shortened recap because I only saw half the game and it is 24 hours removed from said game.
  •  Alex Smith is so bad that 49er fans actually wanted David Carr in the game.
  • Is there really anything else that needs to be said?  Alex Smith is a bad NFL QB.  He has flashes of brilliance, but that is always followed up with the dumbest throw you have ever seen.
  • On 2nd and long and needing to get a 1st down to end the game, Shady McCoy inexplicably slid 2 yards short of the marker.  Andy Reid followed that up by throwing the ball.  The play did not work.  All around idiocy that could only be made funnier by playing the Tennessee-LSU debacle in the background.
  • 49er fans chanted for David Carr.
  • Kevin Kolb did play well in this game and he was not afraid to go pass the ball more than 5 yards down the field.  That's what I like to see.
  • The Cowboys season saving win they had 2 weeks ago is no longer the season saver.  They are 1-3.
  • The Redskins beat the Cowboys, Eagles, and Packers but lost to the Rams and Texans?  Who are these people?
  • People in this country were hoping for David Carr to play QB for their team.
And lastly, a new feature for the recap starting this week, the win probability graph! (advancednflstats.com)

NFL Week 5 Schedule

Apologies for the lateness. Baseball playoffs had me forgetting all about getting this up.

Cincinnati politicians are the worst. Because they only have one parking lot for Paul Brown Stadium and Great American Ballpark, the 2 essentially cannot host events at the same time or anywhere near it. Thus, Game 3 of the NLDS will be going head to head with the Eagles on Sunday Night Football. Yay for my remote control's "Jump" button! (all times ET; I'll be home with my NFL Sunday Ticket for the 1st part of Sunday before leaving on time to get back for the Sunday Night Football And Baseball).

News Happens Fast When You Return Home From London: Westrbook Signs With Niners

Having watched Brian Westbrook for the better part of the last decade and having seen what he has been through the past couple of years, I can honestly that this petrifies me. He suffered 2 concussions last year and his leg has to be hanging on by a thread. Couple that with the fact that due to age and the injuries and the fact that his production has gone way down and my opinion that he can't play in the NFL anymore, and I feel justified in my fear. I like Westbrook and while I wish him success, I really wish he would have stayed out of the NFL. It just worries me that if he gets injured in the wrong spot (his brain, leg, ankle, etc.) it could lead to something serious that affects him for the rest of his life.

HOLY SHIT! Did The Eagles Just Trade McNabb To The 49ers?????

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!!!!!! This is the absolute worst fake report I have ever seen in my life!

"Donavan Mcnabb". Ugh....it's Donovan McNabb.

"San Fransisco". Ugh....it's San Francisco

"it has been confirmed by the NFL." The NFL needs to confirm trades?

Since when does an ESPN writer write the name of their network as "Espn"? The last 3 letters of the network have been in lower case letters since never.

"Donavan Mcnabb is 49er.Details have not..." Spaces after periods are your friends!

"one of San Frans 1rst round draft picks" Yeah someone just wrote that. Most 1st graders have better grammar than that.

The world's greatest ESPN website impersonator is also the world's worst English grammar student.

The obvious fakeness of it has gone over the heads ofseveral Eagles and 49er fans of who think Donavan Mcnabb is a now a part of the San Frans and the Eagles have their 1rst round draft pick.

Actually come to think of it, who is to say that those things are not true? I mean just because Donovan McNabb is not a 49er and the Eagles do not have the 49ers' 1st round draft pick does not mean that Donavan Mcnabb is not with the San Frans and the Eagles do not have the San Frans 1rst round draft pick.

(Thanks to The Sporting Blog with the screen grab that I can expand into something readable)

(FYI, Big East live blog is right below this. Come join us for the fun where we offer no fake ESPN sites with the world's worst written fake report!)

VIDEO OF EPICNESS: Eagles Fans Create Second Blizzard At Expense Of Niners Fans

I am aware that what I am about to say may not be the most popular thing I have ever written and I am aware that you may blast me for this, but whether you like it or not, whether you love it or you hate it, I'm about to tell it like it is, so before you criticize, think hard and long about what I am saying as you'll find that I speak the truth.

Look, everyone who threw a snow is an idiot. At the same time, when you go to a football game where your team is the road team and you are going to the game the day after the 2nd largest snowstorm in city history and you blatantly and purposefully where paraphernalia of the visiting team, you're an even bigger idiot and this is going to happen.

I honestly cannot watch that with a straight face. That is too funny!

Oh, wait, JFein, I thought you said everyone who threw a snowball was an idiot? Yes. I did. And they are. At the same time, though, idiocy can be fun and harmless, can't it? No one was hurt or injured from or suffered a phantom water concussion so what is really the big deal here? I don't need to tell you the whole Bloomsburg snowball fight story again, but I took several well-aimed, hard thrown snowballs to the head that night, as did other people. And if it was not for my complete lack of a throwing arm and an aim, I would have damn sure dished them out as well with a laughing smile and a grin on my face. Yet, despite those numerous snowballs to the head, I'm still here aren't I? No phantom concussion for flying water for me. I'm a man!

So what's the big deal? From all reports, no one was at all hurt or harmed from snowballs so whatever it is, a bunch of pussy Niners fans sure as hell are angry over a bunch of nothing.

From the forums I have scrolled today, we are "classless", "scum", "douche bags", "dirtbags", "only good for sucking some penis", and we are "to football what Al Queda is to Islam!"

My apologies for this little dose of reality, but if you do say that then you are saying that you and your fanbase would not have done the same thing and that's about as false as 2 plus 2 equals fish. Seriously, people. This is fucking human nature we are dealing with. Stick this snow storm in any of the 31 NFL venues with any of the 32 fan bases a day before a game. Heck, make it end 14 hours before the start of the game as it did here, and we'll see what happens. You can't expect every flake of snow away from the fans, that's borderline an insane expectation for hard-working men and women who did their damn best just to make this game playable and over 60,000 seats usable. Guess what, there is going to be snow there. Unguarded and unprotected snow. And guess what 20-year old college kids do when they see a shitload of snow lying around? They throw it at any and all people outside of their perceived box or group. And guess what, those helpless folks wearing blatant Niners jersies, are outside of that box. This is not a Philadelphia thing, this is not a New York thing, this is not a New England thing, this is not a Northeast thing, this is a human nature thing. Are you people, especially you whiny Niners fans and everyone else chastising Philly fans for this, really that sanctimonious as to believe that this does not happen anywhere else? If you are, then not only are you sanctimonious, but you are a fucking liar and a hypocrite.

A lot of what I say is sarcasm, but not one damn bit of this is sarcasm. Are you telling me that in the face of all that snow, that Panthers fans would hold fire? Are you saying that nothing like this would ever happen in Houston if the opportunity there? Are you San Franciscans above all forms of douche baggery? Are you really that holier than thou that your entire fan base?

But, you counter, show us an instance where us good-natured hearty Niners fans did this? Well I can't. You only don't do it because you live in San Francisco where not once during the year does the temperature ever rise or fall below 50 degrees. You never have the chance to go to a snow game. It's not that your not idiots like Eagles fans, it's just you never get the chance to be those kind of idiots. There's a difference. Because I dare you to look me in the virtual eyes and say with a straight face that if you were going to your team's home game after that much snow was dumped on your city and your stadium and I dare you to tell me that not only you, but your entire fanbase would be perfect angels and that what happened in Philadelphia and what happened in the Meadowlands would not happen at your perfect stadium with your perfect fans. And then I dare you to actually put yourself in that situation. The results will be eye-opening.

But, wait a minute, JFein? You would have the same kind of reaction if 58,000 people decided to throw snowballs at you. Well first of all, I would not be dumb enough to go to an Eagles game as a fan of the visiting team AND I would not be dumb enough to go to an Eagles game as a fan of the visiting team the day after a snow storm AND I would not be dumb enough not to go to an Eagles game as a fan of the visiting team the day after a snow storm wearing the jersies of the visiting team AND I would not be dumb enough to not just stand there for a minute as snowballs were flying at me.

Like it or hate it, that's the way it is. Deal with it.

Swoop's Epic Wipeout

First of all, congrats to the Eagles on clinching a playoff spot! My theory is all that matters is that you get into the postseason and anything can happen from there. The Eagles are in and have saved me from having another Week 17 heart attack, plus they have guaranteed themselves a 1 and 12 shot at winning Vince Lombardi's Trophy.

Secondly, during the Niners-Eagles game today, the Fox cameras caught a very curious incident involving the Eagles mascot (named Swoop) and the snow. Check it out.

DOWN GOES SWOOP! DOWN GOES SWOOP! DOWN GOES SNOOP!

At first you wonder what happened but when the snow bounces up, you know that the only thing that happened was Swoop taking an unplanned dive into some white stuff.

Too funny.

The Mysterious Swoop Incident (The 700 Level)

Week 15 Open Thread/Live Blog

If anyone here wants a live blog today, I will be more than happy to make one and put one up. They don't take a lot of time at all.

With my enhanced coverage of being home (i.e. Sunday Ticket/RedZone), that means that at 4:00, I'll willingly subject myself to tears and watch the start of Cincy-SD before switching to the Eagles game at 4:15. I'll work on putting up the start of that game as soon as the Eagles game is over, even if it's nothing special besides a standing ovation from the Chargers crowd to the Bengals.

Let me know what y'all want to do here and I will act accordingly.

It looks like we'll try a live blog. Let's hope it's not too disasterous.

Your Week 15 NFL Schedule (UPDATING THE DECEMBER BLIZZARD #1)

(Authors note: This is officially the craziest weekend of scheduling changes since the weekend immediately following 9/11. As more changes are announced, I will be sure to update them here)

I am just a few days away from my winter break, so the next time I will be at the live blogs in full will be conference championship Sunday. That being said, I do hope to find a slot or 2 of non-Eagles game where I can come on and chat with you guys about the games and what not.

And seeing as I have NFL-Network, Sunday Ticket and their accompanying RedZone Channel there is no need to bold any games, as frankly, I can watch them all if I want to. ;-)

So here ya go, here is your Week 15 NFL announcing schedule complete with another rousing rendition of Dick Stockton Tony Siragusa doing an Eagles game and a Fox doubleheader.

Monday Night Football

We only have 3 weeks left of the regular season and what are the odds that in Week 15, the NFL Network is televising 2 games featuring unbeatens? It should be a fun week of football and if I have a chance I will stop by and say hello and yap with y'all, if not, then I'll be sure to post my thoughts on the Eagles games here, because after all, you guys can't live unless you read my opinion on Eagles games, right?

Tim Lincecum Is An Inspiration To Weed Smokers Everywhere

Forget steroids, if you want to win a Cy Young in the NL, you go straight for the hard stuff, you go for the weed.

Congrats to the 2009 Cy Young winner, Tim Lincecum.

Update: I had every intention of adding 49er16's pic earlier, but Blogger was being a bitch and not letting me upload pics, so the post came out as a little mean-spirited. I was simply joking around. If it makes you feel any better, I have 2 frozen internet windows that have not been shut down yet because I've been too lazy to restart my computer.

My sincerest congrats to Tim Lincecum winning his 2nd straight Cy Young. The right guy definitley won.

Join Us For Some Live Bloggin Action

over at Keith's Sports Journal! It's the Niners vs. the Bears. It's Alex Smith vs. Jay Cutler. Okay, so the hype is really just an excuse to watch football on a Thursday, but who cares, I get NFL-N, it's a football game, and the playoff implications are quite high in this one.

Prediction: Niners 7, Bears 6
Total turnovers: Bears 6, Niners 7

"FAVRE DID IT!"

Un-fucking-believeable.

Brett Favre does it again.

And you'll never believe who the receiver was.

Greg Fucking Lewis!!!!! Yes, that's the same Greg Lewis that's a former Eagle! Yes, that's the same Greg Lewis that despite his amazing ability to drop every football thrown to him, found his way into the starting rotation for the Eagles a few years ago. Yes, that's the same Greg Lewis who was cut by the Patriots earlier this year. Yes, that's the guy who just caught that game-winning touchdown. GREG FUCKING LEWIS!!!!!!!!!!!

Un-fucking-believeable.
