Game 2: Boston @ Buffalo 1:00 (NBC - Mike Emrick and Eddie Olczyk, Itg: Darren Pang) (CBC - Dean Brown and Greg Millen, SR: Cassie Campbell)
Game 2: Montreal @ Washington 7:00 (Versus - Sam Rosen and Billy Jaffe, SR: Bob Harwood) (TSN - Gord Miller, ItG: Pierre McGuire)
Game 2: Los Angeles @ Vancouver 10:00 (Versus) (CBC - Jim Hughson and Craig Simpson, SR: Scott Oake)
Seeing as we've still got an hour to kill before the next hockey game, I figured I would introduce you to this NHL on NBC from a couple weeks ago that for some strange reason, did not make the airwaves.....
I feel like I need to shell out Martin Tyler one more time. We've (Manchester United) beaten Manchester City in stoppage time again! Martin Tyler came up with another classic call. :)
ReplyDeletehttp://www.dailymotion.com/video/xczfbv_man-city-0-1-man-und-matchhighlight_sport?start=0
@ SSR: The World Cup can't come soon enough.
ReplyDeleteI am strangely attracted to Cassie Campbell.
ReplyDelete@JFein you're not kidding about the World Cup
/1-10'd
I'm not sure if I really have a rooting interest in this series.
ReplyDeletePanger is the man. I wish he could get a better contract in American than just to work playoff games for NBC.
ReplyDeleteIf Boston can't defend, this will be a sweep for the Sabres.
ReplyDelete1-0 Buffalo 3 minutes in.
Why does Eddie Olczyk feel the need to scream his analysis of the goal?
ReplyDeleteTaunting "Tuukka" chants. Classic.
ReplyDeleteLindy Ruff: The only thing detestable about a very likable Sabre team.
ReplyDelete2-0 Sabres.
ReplyDeleteJack Edwards weeps.
How did that not go in??????
ReplyDelete2-0 Sabres after 1.
ReplyDeleteWow. Bruins have tied it. Didn't see that one coming.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap? Boston is winning now? That's what I get for leaving for 30 minutes.
ReplyDeleteRECCHI SEALS IT FOR BOSTON!
ReplyDeleteHow sad is it that I just found out that the NBA Playoffs start today?
ReplyDeleteI really have no interest in the NBA and probably won't be throwing up open threads for them (I don't even have a schedule up), although if you want to, you are more than welcome to comment on them in the Stanley Cup playoffs open threads.
Les Habitants de Montreal marquent un but!
ReplyDeleteThe only stream I have been able to get my hands on for this game.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't I find screaming Gord of TSN at all? I'll won't complain about listening to Pierre McGuire either. I swear.
VARLAMOV???? LOL!
ReplyDeleteIf the Caps can't beat the the 2nd worst team in the whole playoffs........
Thank god for Eric Fehr.
ReplyDeleteEric Belanger, FAIL. Caps shorthanded.
ReplyDeleteCaps penalty killing, SUCCESS.
ReplyDeleteCan somebody please show Jamie Moyer the way to the nearest old folks home? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAspeaking of baseball, the Mets and Cardinals are currently tied at 0 in the bottom of the 12th on Fox with the bases loaded. For realz.
The Mets are about to call up Carlos Santana and have him pitch.....
How has Varlamov not given up a goal in this game yet? HOW?
ReplyDeleteVARLAMOV ROBS POULIOT!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!
ReplyDeleteDid Varlamov just make a great save????
ReplyDeleteMets and Cards are going to the 13.
ReplyDeleteMets: 0 2 0
Cardinals: 0 7 0
You can't make this stuff up.
@JFein If Theodore is the goalie, it's 4-1 or 5-1 Habs.
ReplyDeleteI don't care how Varly does it...just stop the puck.
3-1 Habs.
ReplyDeleteHow on earth are the Caps allowing this to happen?
DAMN IT!!!!!! KOSTISHYN(?)!!!!
ReplyDelete@JFein They're not trying...what an embarrassment.
ReplyDeleteI can't even complain about the refs.
If anything, Montreal was screwed in OT on Thursday.
BTW, Bob Harwood (Versus) is standing behind Al Koken (CSN) during his report.
ReplyDeleteAnd people call the Sharks chokers.
ReplyDelete@ Al: Did the Capitals struggle against Montreal during the regular season or is this all a surprise?
ReplyDeleteI'll admit I did not see Montreal dominating like this. I've seen them play the Habs this year, they are not very good. Halak is decent but he can be inconsistent and offensively they should not strike much fear into their opponents.
Who knew the Nats would be playing the Caps?!
ReplyDeleteOdds in Vegas- 1 to 300,000,000
@ 49er16: Admittedly I do not know a whole lot about the west so this may be a bit inaccurate, but from my observations, Montreal is the 2nd worst team in the field ahead of only Boston.
ReplyDelete@49er16 The Sharks clearly outplayed the Avs even though they were behind most of last night.
ReplyDeleteHabs are dominating the Caps.
WHAT ARE THEY DOING???? /Verne Lundquist'd
Caps penalty, Brooks Laich tripping.
ReplyDelete"This is important." JOe B and Locker on the PK.
ReplyDeleteNO KIDDING!!!!!!!
THANK YOU VARLY!
@JFein: Colorado was one of those teams I hoped the Sharks would avoid in the first round. Craig Anderson is a stud for them in goal.
ReplyDelete4-1 Habs.
ReplyDeleteIt's official: The Canadiens are sweeping the Capitals.
The crown can be removed from the head of the Sharks.
I'm done with this team. They choke every year. The only question is when will it happen.
ReplyDeleteThere's no kicking or punching motion, people.
Joe B is perplexed that it's taking a long time.
ReplyDeleteIt's times like this where I bet Caps fans wished they had Sidney Crosby on their team.
ReplyDelete/Gary Bettman's gay sex mate
Off-topic: 0-0. Mets-Cards. End of the 13th. The game is on Fox for those who care.
Am I the only one that assumed that is what they were looking at and not the actual goal itself?
ReplyDeleteRosen and Jaffe were just as perplexed as apparently Joey B was.
They were looking at the other chance that went off Varlamov and along the goal line and stayed out.
ReplyDeleteIt's 4-1 anyway.
SCORE!!!!! BACKSTROM!!!!- Joe B
ReplyDeleteNo interference there. That's a good call.
ReplyDelete4-2 Habs.
WOW! No penalty shot but a Caps hand pass.
ReplyDelete"Exactly what the doctor ordered for Washington." -Joe B
ReplyDeleteA slashing penalty on MON, I'll remember that during my next check-up.
Billy Jaffe nearly blew a gasket on that "hand pass."
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine what it was like listening to Joe Beninati.
Jonesey is ripping the Capitals.
ReplyDelete"A complete lack of respect for the Montreal Canadiens."
If you are a fan currently in Busch Stadium, is there a way that you can buy these hours of your life back?
ReplyDelete@JFein Caps and Habs won 2 games each in the season series. Each team won once at the other's home rink.
ReplyDeleteTwo games went beyond regulation., Caps won a SO and the Habs won in OT to break our winning steak.
I thought Montreal could keep it close and win but not make a dominating blowout.
+1,000,000 Keith Jones
ReplyDeleteIt's like the Caps assumed the Habs would play like they did in the regular season.
Caps also have to play 60 minutes not 10, 20, or 30.
Cards have runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out in the bottom of the 14th, still tied at 0. Ryan Ludwick at the plate.
ReplyDeletenice power play...
ReplyDeleteSCOREEEEE!!!!!!! Alexander Ovechkin jumping for joy!!!!!!
ReplyDelete-Joe B
Ovechkin makes it a 1-goal game!
ReplyDeleteThe Habs will be as the Habs will be.
And I think Billy Jaffe attended the Eddie Olczyk School Of Screaming Goal Analysis
GOMEZ AND POTI FIGHTING!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBases loaded, 2 out. End this game now.
ReplyDeletePouliot had the pokechecked away, crashed into the net, Gionta shot the puck in. Net off, no goal.
ReplyDeleteThe Mets got out of the jam incredible.
ReplyDeleteThey must enjoy prolonging the inevitable loss.
"Alexander Semin had that, Alexander Semin is, Alexander Semin......Alexander Semin." - Billy Jaffe
ReplyDeleteSemin takes his useless penalty for tonight.
ReplyDeleteWe kill it off!!!!!
ReplyDeleteVarlamov stops Kostistyn, see miracles do happen!
ReplyDeleteSCORE!!!!!!!!!! BACKSTROM FROM OVECHKINNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYES!!!!!!!!!!! TIED!!!!!!!!!
Caps tie it with 10:13 to go. Yep. The Habs are one of the worst teams in the field of 16.
ReplyDeleteI think Beninati and myself broke glass in every D.C. area house on that goal.
ReplyDeleteLAICH ROBBED!
Hal Gill interference. Caps power play!!!!
ReplyDeletePower play goes powerless. Halak stones Semin.
ReplyDeleteDAMN IT!!!!!!!! PLEKANEC!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteANOTHER FUCKING 2 ON 1!!!!!!!!
5-4 Montreal.
ReplyDelete0-0 End of 15.
What fun.
Thank you Pouliot for being dumb. Caps power play, SCORE THIS TIME!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBE STRONG ON THE PUCK!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteCanadiens are blocking everything.
ReplyDeletePathetic PP.
ReplyDelete100 seconds...
ReplyDeleteThe Habs are big fans of overtime.....
ReplyDeleteJOHN CARLSON!!!!!
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! /John Kelly'd
"The Capitals trying to take a page from San Jose's book." -Beninati
ReplyDeleteKenny Albert may have just tweeted the greatest tweet ever: "Scoreless in St.Louis as we head to the 16th inning. I have not gone to the men's room since before the game."
ReplyDeletehttp://twitter.com/KennyAlbert/status/12371498946
Halak the save, 6.5 left
ReplyDeleteOT in Washington again.
ReplyDeleteHaving fun, Al? ;-)
Overtime again. This isn't good for my health.
ReplyDelete@JFein No. So, which game ends first, Mets/Cards or Caps/Habs?
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell was that?
ReplyDeleteTo the 17th we go!
Ludwick caught between 3rd and home to end the 16th. Does anybody want to win this ballgamme?
ReplyDelete@ Al: At this rate, I am going to guess Caps/Habs ends first.
ReplyDeleteThe Phillies game, which started 3 hours after the Mets/Cards game started, has already ended.
Ubaldo Jimenez just threw the Rockies first no-hitter, congrats. 4-0 over Atlanta.
ReplyDelete@JFein Obviously the Rockies game which started at the same time as the Phils game has ended.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap! Why didn't someone tell me Ubaldo Jimenez got a no hitter???????
ReplyDeleteBACKSTROM!!!!!
ReplyDelete@ Al: I did not see your comment in time. I did not even know he had one going until too late. That explains how he managed the no-hitter.
ReplyDeleteCaps game is over. Mets and Cardinals are still playing a game that closely resembles baseball.
NICK IS THE MAD HATTER!!!!! /Steve Kolbe'd
ReplyDeleteKenny Albert and Tim McCarver have been reduced to talking about Custer's Last Stand.....
ReplyDeleteThe Mets and Cardinals started their game at 4 PM. My late local news is now being pre-empted because of it.
ReplyDeleteTim McCarver got a chance to pee during the 7th inning stretch. Kenny Albert has not peed since the first pitch.
I know too much about the lives of Tim McCarver and Kenny Albert.
@JFein TMI
ReplyDeleteFelipe Lopez is pitching and Kyle Lohse is playing left field.
LaRussa wants to go home...
Basket catch by Ryan! This is insane.
Felipe Lopez is now pitching for the Cards.
ReplyDelete@ Al: It's not my fault they mentioned their aching bladders on the air.
ReplyDeleteThis is just nuts.
If Valdes, the pitcher, strikes out, I'd release him on the spot.
ReplyDeleteHe gave up the grand slam to Lopez last night.
He got an infield hit and was thrown out going to 2nd. I feel for Mets fans.
ReplyDeleteLet it be known, that Felipe Lopez pitched tonight to the guy who he hit a grand slam off of the night before.
ReplyDeleteThis shit is nuts.
"I don't believe it" -Tim
ReplyDelete1st decent thing McCarver has said in decades, I'm kidding.
Amazing. The Mets-Cardinals game started at the same time as the Giants-Dodgers game today. The Giants-Dodgers game ended three hours ago.
ReplyDeleteIf the Cards ever have an injury to Wainwright or Carpenter, I think Lopez would be a suitable replacement......
ReplyDelete/Slight sarcasm
@JFein I'm watching this instead of Caps post-game or Canucks/Kings, bizarre.
ReplyDeleteHaha.....My local Fox Affiliate cut away from the Mets-Cardinals to show the 6:30 news then went back to the game after the news was over.
ReplyDelete"If this game gets to the top of the 19th, the Cardinals could be in trouble. The Mets hold the record for most runs scored in the 19th inning, 5, and they all came in 1985." - Tim McCarver
ReplyDeleteSenility at its finest.
Of course, Kenny Albert is on PxP for the baseball not Joe Buck.
ReplyDeleteJoe must have known something...
This game may run into those Fox games next week....
ReplyDeleteYou could fly from Miami to Seattle and still have a couple of minutes to spare.
ReplyDeleteWhite Sox/Mariners w/ McCarver next week, what WILL happen?
And we go to the 19th inning.
ReplyDelete"Remember the Mets hold the record for most runs in the top of the 19th inning." - Tim McCarver
ReplyDeleteMay this game never end. Ever.
Double play sends us to the 19th.
ReplyDeleteMets hold the record for most runs scored in the 19th inning (via McCarver).
Mets 0 7 2
ReplyDeleteCardinals 0 12 0
Top of the 19th.
"This is a major league baseball game." - Tim McCarver
Hahahahaha.....there is going to be a High School game played at that ballpark after this game.
ReplyDeleteThere's a high school game being played at Busch Stadium tonight???
ReplyDeleteThis is officially awesome.
The groundscrew are gonna be millionaires by the end of this night. All of them.
Joe Mather is the new Cardinals "pitcher".
ReplyDeleteThis is stupid as in fun.
Per MLB's Twitter account, the last game to go scoreless was the Dodgers and the Expos on August 23, 1989.
ReplyDeleteFor some perspective, I was born 3 weeks after that. Never in my lifetime has this happened.
ESPN's SNB game is going to be boring. I bet all the starters get the night off on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteBases loaded. Top of the 19th. 0 out.
ReplyDeleteIt's situations like this that legends are made and bladders relieved.
HIT BY PITCH, BASES LOADED!!!!
ReplyDelete1-0 METS!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteTHE METS FINALLY SCORED!
ReplyDeleteFuck the Mets.
ReplyDeleteBY GAWD!!! BY GAWD!!!! THEY SCORED A RUN!!!! WHAT THE HELL IS THIS???!!!! /Jim Ross'd
ReplyDeleteMather threw a strike! Incredible!
ReplyDeleteWhy did you take Felipe Lopez out?? Why? Why? Why?
And what the heck were those noises coming out of the mouth of Kenny and Tim?
1-0 Mets after 18 and a half. You're kidding me.
ReplyDeleteKyle Lohse has landed himself 5th in the batting order?
ReplyDeleteTony La Russa.....super genius!
You mean they saved KROD all this time.
ReplyDeleteHow did the Mets make a smart decision for once?
Full count with Pujols due up next.
ReplyDeleteLead-off walk, that screaming from Mets fans can be heard everywhere.
ReplyDeleteWow. Ludwick just got thrown out at 2nd.
ReplyDeleteUmp blew that one. Ludwick was safe.
ReplyDeleteLudwick thrown out, looked safe.
ReplyDeleteUmps want to go to bed.
OFF THE WALL IT'S A DOUBLE FOR PUJOLS!
ReplyDeleteKyle Lohse is up.......
Pujols with a double.
ReplyDeleteWill the Mets ever live it down if Kyle Lohse gets a 19th inning, game-tying RBI?
ReplyDeleteReyes throws out Lohse. Pujols to 3rd, 2 out.
ReplyDeleteLOL METS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete"Of course, we're tied." -McCarver
ReplyDeleteMolina ties it. Looks like we're headed for #20.
ReplyDeleteMolina with the RBI single just over the 2nd baseman's head.
ReplyDeleteInning #20.
ReplyDeleteCan we just bring a port-a-potty into the booth?
Baseball Tonight is on. I wonder if they can do in-game highlights of FOX games if they run into their slot.
ReplyDeleteJoe Mather AGAIN?
ReplyDeleteJoe Mather going out for his 2nd inning of relief.
ReplyDelete@ Al: They can waste time by talking a little bit about a no-hitter.....
ReplyDelete"Does this game count? It has all the semblence of a fairy, doesn't it?" - Tim McCarver
ReplyDeleteAnd Cinderella came just in time to make a diving outfield catch.....
My hour-long local news is supposed to be on.
ReplyDelete1st and 3rd for the Mets!
Bleh. 2-1 Mets in the top of the 20th.
ReplyDeleteReyes scores Pagan on a sac fly.
ReplyDeleteSteve Berthiuame of ESPN is only talking over the score. They can't show FOX highlights until the game is over.
Lopez, Mather, and Ryan to hit now.
ReplyDeleteMets clutch hitting is horrendous, that's twice they should've blown the game open with Mather on the mound.
ReplyDeleteCards still have a chance.
I love how a Stanley Cup Playoffs open thread has turned into a Mets-Cardinals live blog.
ReplyDeleteThey retired the lead-off man!
ReplyDeleteAlbert and McCarver calling out LaRussa's idiotic strategy.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you use relief pitchers to hit TWICE in extra innings?
Ryan prolongs the agony...
ReplyDeleteFour pitch walk to Schumaker.
ReplyDeleteDOES ANYBODY WANT TO WIN?????
When voting for manager of the year, I hope people remember that LaRussa took out Holliday in this game....
ReplyDeleteMets win. Bleh. Fuck the Mets.
ReplyDeleteIt is OVAH! It is all OVAH! /Cossell'd
ReplyDeleteIT'S OVER!!!!!! IT'S OVER!!!! METS WIN!!!!!
ReplyDeleteCastillo throws out Schumaker on a grounder to 2nd.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteCastillo threw out Ludwick since Schumaker was on-base after the walk. I'm an idiot. /Tired from 20 innings'd
ReplyDeleteBTW, Canucks lead the Kings 2-0 in the 2nd period of a Stanley Cup Playoff game...
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah, there is a hockey game on right now and the Canucks are winning 2-0.
ReplyDelete4th power play for LA.
ReplyDeleteModin pulls the Kings to within 1!!!
ReplyDeleteFredrik Modin scores on the rebound! Kings cut the lead to 2-1.
ReplyDeleteNice pass by Jack Johnsn as well.
AND THE KINGS HAVE TIED IT JUST LIKE THAT!!!
ReplyDeleteWayne Simmonds finishes off a 3 on 1, great pass from Anze Kopitar. 2-2 game.
ReplyDeleteThe Sedins and Burrows nearly scored right before that goal.
Halpern to the box, Kings power play.
ReplyDeleteHalpern to the box, Canucks power play. /Fixed
ReplyDeleteBeing up since 7:30 AM after 5 hours of sleep the night before will mess with the mind.
-----------------------------------
Penalty killed.
Not only is Grandpa Moyer mastering the art of 5-run innings, but J.A. Happ is hurting and may miss his next start.
ReplyDeleteWhere's Pedro when you need him?
@ Al: Trust me. I know that feeling. It's not a jolly one either.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteJarret Stoll, delay of game. It was off Henrik Sedin's stick.
ReplyDeleteBad call!

ReplyDeleteI am really struggling with the concept of time in my life right now.
ReplyDeleteI've been reading some bios of hockey bloggers I read a lot and one of my favorite things is reading they got hooked in, let's say 1995, and me instantly thinking "Really? This guy's a bandwagoner" only to read the next sentence and learn that he was 6-years old at the time and falling in love with hockey for the first time.
I need to grasp that the mid 90s was 15 years ago. I am currently failing at that.

ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, the Kings are about to get a power play...
ReplyDeleteKesler nearly scored shorthanded!
ReplyDeleteLuongo grabs the low shot by Modin!
Canucks kill the penalty.
ReplyDeleteCanucks coming close...
ReplyDeleteIf there is one thing that these playoffs are doing and reading some, it is making me respect the Penguins and some of their fans more and the Devils and some of their fans a lot less.
ReplyDeleteFour minutes left...
ReplyDeleteLong shift for the Sedins, they get off after 2:00 of ice time.
I thought I saw that one go in......
ReplyDeleteHeavy pressure from the Canucks but the Kings escape.
ReplyDeleteKings called and/or charged with a timeout. Simmonds broke his stick.
ReplyDeleteAnother LA icing.
ReplyDeleteUnder a minute...26 seconds to be exact.
ReplyDeleteOvertime again in this series.
ReplyDeleteJust what this day needs, even more overtime.
ReplyDeleteCome on Canucks and Kings, top the Mets and Cards and go 5 OTs. You know you want to.
