Game 2: Boston @ Buffalo 1:00 (NBC - Mike Emrick and Eddie Olczyk, Itg: Darren Pang) (CBC - Dean Brown and Greg Millen, SR: Cassie Campbell)

Game 2: Montreal @ Washington 7:00 (Versus - Sam Rosen and Billy Jaffe, SR: Bob Harwood) (TSN - Gord Miller, ItG: Pierre McGuire)

Game 2: Los Angeles @ Vancouver 10:00 (Versus) (CBC - Jim Hughson and Craig Simpson, SR: Scott Oake)

Seeing as we've still got an hour to kill before the next hockey game, I figured I would introduce you to this NHL on NBC from a couple weeks ago that for some strange reason, did not make the airwaves.....

  1. I feel like I need to shell out Martin Tyler one more time. We've (Manchester United) beaten Manchester City in stoppage time again! Martin Tyler came up with another classic call. :)

  2. @ SSR: The World Cup can't come soon enough.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I am strangely attracted to Cassie Campbell.

@JFein you're not kidding about the World Cup

  4. I'm not sure if I really have a rooting interest in this series.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Panger is the man. I wish he could get a better contract in American than just to work playoff games for NBC.

    ReplyDelete
  6. If Boston can't defend, this will be a sweep for the Sabres.

    1-0 Buffalo 3 minutes in.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Why does Eddie Olczyk feel the need to scream his analysis of the goal?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Taunting "Tuukka" chants. Classic.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Lindy Ruff: The only thing detestable about a very likable Sabre team.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Wow. Bruins have tied it. Didn't see that one coming.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Holy crap? Boston is winning now? That's what I get for leaving for 30 minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  12. How sad is it that I just found out that the NBA Playoffs start today?

I really have no interest in the NBA and probably won't be throwing up open threads for them (I don't even have a schedule up), although if you want to, you are more than welcome to comment on them in the Stanley Cup playoffs open threads.

  13. Les Habitants de Montreal marquent un but!

    ReplyDelete
  14. The only stream I have been able to get my hands on for this game.

Why can't I find screaming Gord of TSN at all? I'll won't complain about listening to Pierre McGuire either. I swear.

    ReplyDelete
  15. VARLAMOV???? LOL!

If the Caps can't beat the the 2nd worst team in the whole playoffs........

    ReplyDelete
  16. Eric Belanger, FAIL. Caps shorthanded.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Can somebody please show Jamie Moyer the way to the nearest old folks home? Thanks!

Aspeaking of baseball, the Mets and Cardinals are currently tied at 0 in the bottom of the 12th on Fox with the bases loaded. For realz.

The Mets are about to call up Carlos Santana and have him pitch.....

    ReplyDelete
  18. How has Varlamov not given up a goal in this game yet? HOW?

    ReplyDelete
  19. VARLAMOV ROBS POULIOT!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Did Varlamov just make a great save????

    ReplyDelete
  21. Mets and Cards are going to the 13.

    Mets: 0 2 0
    Cardinals: 0 7 0

You can't make this stuff up.

    ReplyDelete
  22. @JFein If Theodore is the goalie, it's 4-1 or 5-1 Habs.

I don't care how Varly does it...just stop the puck.

    ReplyDelete
  23. 3-1 Habs.

How on earth are the Caps allowing this to happen?

    ReplyDelete
  24. @JFein They're not trying...what an embarrassment.

I can't even complain about the refs.

If anything, Montreal was screwed in OT on Thursday.

    ReplyDelete
  25. BTW, Bob Harwood (Versus) is standing behind Al Koken (CSN) during his report.

    ReplyDelete
  26. And people call the Sharks chokers.

    ReplyDelete
  27. @ Al: Did the Capitals struggle against Montreal during the regular season or is this all a surprise?

I'll admit I did not see Montreal dominating like this. I've seen them play the Habs this year, they are not very good. Halak is decent but he can be inconsistent and offensively they should not strike much fear into their opponents.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Who knew the Nats would be playing the Caps?!

Odds in Vegas- 1 to 300,000,000

    ReplyDelete
  29. @ 49er16: Admittedly I do not know a whole lot about the west so this may be a bit inaccurate, but from my observations, Montreal is the 2nd worst team in the field ahead of only Boston.

    ReplyDelete
  30. @49er16 The Sharks clearly outplayed the Avs even though they were behind most of last night.

    Habs are dominating the Caps.

WHAT ARE THEY DOING???? /Verne Lundquist'd

    ReplyDelete
  31. Caps penalty, Brooks Laich tripping.

    ReplyDelete
  32. "This is important." JOe B and Locker on the PK.

    NO KIDDING!!!!!!!

    THANK YOU VARLY!

    ReplyDelete
  33. @JFein: Colorado was one of those teams I hoped the Sharks would avoid in the first round. Craig Anderson is a stud for them in goal.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 4-1 Habs.

It's official: The Canadiens are sweeping the Capitals.

The crown can be removed from the head of the Sharks.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm done with this team. They choke every year. The only question is when will it happen.

There's no kicking or punching motion, people.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Joe B is perplexed that it's taking a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  37. It's times like this where I bet Caps fans wished they had Sidney Crosby on their team.

    /Gary Bettman's gay sex mate

Off-topic: 0-0. Mets-Cards. End of the 13th. The game is on Fox for those who care.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Am I the only one that assumed that is what they were looking at and not the actual goal itself?

Rosen and Jaffe were just as perplexed as apparently Joey B was.

    ReplyDelete
  39. They were looking at the other chance that went off Varlamov and along the goal line and stayed out.

    It's 4-1 anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  40. No interference there. That's a good call.

    4-2 Habs.

    ReplyDelete
  41. WOW! No penalty shot but a Caps hand pass.

    ReplyDelete
  42. "Exactly what the doctor ordered for Washington." -Joe B

A slashing penalty on MON, I'll remember that during my next check-up.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Billy Jaffe nearly blew a gasket on that "hand pass."

I can only imagine what it was like listening to Joe Beninati.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Jonesey is ripping the Capitals.

"A complete lack of respect for the Montreal Canadiens."

    ReplyDelete
  45. If you are a fan currently in Busch Stadium, is there a way that you can buy these hours of your life back?

    ReplyDelete
  46. @JFein Caps and Habs won 2 games each in the season series. Each team won once at the other's home rink.

Two games went beyond regulation., Caps won a SO and the Habs won in OT to break our winning steak.

I thought Montreal could keep it close and win but not make a dominating blowout.

    ReplyDelete
  47. +1,000,000 Keith Jones

It's like the Caps assumed the Habs would play like they did in the regular season.

Caps also have to play 60 minutes not 10, 20, or 30.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Cards have runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out in the bottom of the 14th, still tied at 0. Ryan Ludwick at the plate.

    ReplyDelete
  49. SCOREEEEE!!!!!!! Alexander Ovechkin jumping for joy!!!!!!
    -Joe B

    ReplyDelete
  50. Ovechkin makes it a 1-goal game!

The Habs will be as the Habs will be.

And I think Billy Jaffe attended the Eddie Olczyk School Of Screaming Goal Analysis

    ReplyDelete
  51. Bases loaded, 2 out. End this game now.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Pouliot had the pokechecked away, crashed into the net, Gionta shot the puck in. Net off, no goal.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The Mets got out of the jam incredible.

They must enjoy prolonging the inevitable loss.

    ReplyDelete
  54. "Alexander Semin had that, Alexander Semin is, Alexander Semin......Alexander Semin." - Billy Jaffe

    ReplyDelete
  55. Semin takes his useless penalty for tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Varlamov stops Kostistyn, see miracles do happen!

    ReplyDelete
  57. SCORE!!!!!!!!!! BACKSTROM FROM OVECHKINNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!

    YES!!!!!!!!!!! TIED!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Caps tie it with 10:13 to go. Yep. The Habs are one of the worst teams in the field of 16.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think Beninati and myself broke glass in every D.C. area house on that goal.

    LAICH ROBBED!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hal Gill interference. Caps power play!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Power play goes powerless. Halak stones Semin.

    ReplyDelete
  62. DAMN IT!!!!!!!! PLEKANEC!!!!!!!!!

    ANOTHER FUCKING 2 ON 1!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  63. 5-4 Montreal.
    0-0 End of 15.

    What fun.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Thank you Pouliot for being dumb. Caps power play, SCORE THIS TIME!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  65. The Habs are big fans of overtime.....

    ReplyDelete

  69. OT in Washington again.

    Having fun, Al? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  70. Overtime again. This isn't good for my health.

    ReplyDelete
  71. @JFein No. So, which game ends first, Mets/Cards or Caps/Habs?

    ReplyDelete
  72. What the hell was that?

    To the 17th we go!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Ludwick caught between 3rd and home to end the 16th. Does anybody want to win this ballgamme?

    ReplyDelete
  74. @ Al: At this rate, I am going to guess Caps/Habs ends first.

The Phillies game, which started 3 hours after the Mets/Cards game started, has already ended.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Ubaldo Jimenez just threw the Rockies first no-hitter, congrats. 4-0 over Atlanta.

    ReplyDelete
  76. @JFein Obviously the Rockies game which started at the same time as the Phils game has ended.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Holy crap! Why didn't someone tell me Ubaldo Jimenez got a no hitter???????

    ReplyDelete
  78. @ Al: I did not see your comment in time. I did not even know he had one going until too late. That explains how he managed the no-hitter.

Caps game is over. Mets and Cardinals are still playing a game that closely resembles baseball.

    ReplyDelete
  79. NICK IS THE MAD HATTER!!!!! /Steve Kolbe'd

    ReplyDelete
  80. Kenny Albert and Tim McCarver have been reduced to talking about Custer's Last Stand.....

    ReplyDelete
  81. The Mets and Cardinals started their game at 4 PM. My late local news is now being pre-empted because of it.

Tim McCarver got a chance to pee during the 7th inning stretch. Kenny Albert has not peed since the first pitch.

I know too much about the lives of Tim McCarver and Kenny Albert.

    ReplyDelete
  82. @JFein TMI

Felipe Lopez is pitching and Kyle Lohse is playing left field.

    LaRussa wants to go home...

Basket catch by Ryan! This is insane.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Felipe Lopez is now pitching for the Cards.

    ReplyDelete
  84. @ Al: It's not my fault they mentioned their aching bladders on the air.

    This is just nuts.

    ReplyDelete
  85. If Valdes, the pitcher, strikes out, I'd release him on the spot.

He gave up the grand slam to Lopez last night.

    ReplyDelete
  86. He got an infield hit and was thrown out going to 2nd. I feel for Mets fans.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Let it be known, that Felipe Lopez pitched tonight to the guy who he hit a grand slam off of the night before.

    This shit is nuts.

    ReplyDelete
  88. "I don't believe it" -Tim

1st decent thing McCarver has said in decades, I'm kidding.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Amazing. The Mets-Cardinals game started at the same time as the Giants-Dodgers game today. The Giants-Dodgers game ended three hours ago.

    ReplyDelete
  90. If the Cards ever have an injury to Wainwright or Carpenter, I think Lopez would be a suitable replacement......

    /Slight sarcasm

    ReplyDelete
  91. @JFein I'm watching this instead of Caps post-game or Canucks/Kings, bizarre.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Haha.....My local Fox Affiliate cut away from the Mets-Cardinals to show the 6:30 news then went back to the game after the news was over.

    ReplyDelete
  93. "If this game gets to the top of the 19th, the Cardinals could be in trouble. The Mets hold the record for most runs scored in the 19th inning, 5, and they all came in 1985." - Tim McCarver

    Senility at its finest.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Of course, Kenny Albert is on PxP for the baseball not Joe Buck.

    Joe must have known something...

    ReplyDelete
  95. This game may run into those Fox games next week....

    ReplyDelete
  96. You could fly from Miami to Seattle and still have a couple of minutes to spare.

White Sox/Mariners w/ McCarver next week, what WILL happen?

    ReplyDelete
  97. "Remember the Mets hold the record for most runs in the top of the 19th inning." - Tim McCarver

May this game never end. Ever.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Double play sends us to the 19th.

Mets hold the record for most runs scored in the 19th inning (via McCarver).

    ReplyDelete
  99. Mets 0 7 2
    Cardinals 0 12 0
    Top of the 19th.

"This is a major league baseball game." - Tim McCarver

    ReplyDelete
  100. Hahahahaha.....there is going to be a High School game played at that ballpark after this game.

    ReplyDelete
  101. There's a high school game being played at Busch Stadium tonight???

    This is officially awesome.

The groundscrew are gonna be millionaires by the end of this night. All of them.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Joe Mather is the new Cardinals "pitcher".

This is stupid as in fun.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Per MLB's Twitter account, the last game to go scoreless was the Dodgers and the Expos on August 23, 1989.

For some perspective, I was born 3 weeks after that. Never in my lifetime has this happened.

    ReplyDelete
  104. ESPN's SNB game is going to be boring. I bet all the starters get the night off on Sunday.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Bases loaded. Top of the 19th. 0 out.

It's situations like this that legends are made and bladders relieved.

    ReplyDelete
  106. BY GAWD!!! BY GAWD!!!! THEY SCORED A RUN!!!! WHAT THE HELL IS THIS???!!!! /Jim Ross'd

    ReplyDelete
  107. Mather threw a strike! Incredible!

Why did you take Felipe Lopez out?? Why? Why? Why?

And what the heck were those noises coming out of the mouth of Kenny and Tim?

    ReplyDelete
  108. 1-0 Mets after 18 and a half. You're kidding me.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Kyle Lohse has landed himself 5th in the batting order?

    Tony La Russa.....super genius!

    ReplyDelete
  110. You mean they saved KROD all this time.

How did the Mets make a smart decision for once?

    ReplyDelete
  111. Lead-off walk, that screaming from Mets fans can be heard everywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Wow. Ludwick just got thrown out at 2nd.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Ump blew that one. Ludwick was safe.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Ludwick thrown out, looked safe.

Umps want to go to bed.

    ReplyDelete
  115. OFF THE WALL IT'S A DOUBLE FOR PUJOLS!

    Kyle Lohse is up.......

    ReplyDelete
  116. Will the Mets ever live it down if Kyle Lohse gets a 19th inning, game-tying RBI?

    ReplyDelete
  117. Reyes throws out Lohse. Pujols to 3rd, 2 out.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Molina ties it. Looks like we're headed for #20.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Molina with the RBI single just over the 2nd baseman's head.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Inning #20.

Can we just bring a port-a-potty into the booth?

    ReplyDelete
  121. Baseball Tonight is on. I wonder if they can do in-game highlights of FOX games if they run into their slot.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Joe Mather going out for his 2nd inning of relief.

    ReplyDelete
  123. @ Al: They can waste time by talking a little bit about a no-hitter.....

    ReplyDelete
  124. "Does this game count? It has all the semblence of a fairy, doesn't it?" - Tim McCarver

And Cinderella came just in time to make a diving outfield catch.....

    ReplyDelete
  125. My hour-long local news is supposed to be on.

1st and 3rd for the Mets!

    ReplyDelete
  126. Bleh. 2-1 Mets in the top of the 20th.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Reyes scores Pagan on a sac fly.

Steve Berthiuame of ESPN is only talking over the score. They can't show FOX highlights until the game is over.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Lopez, Mather, and Ryan to hit now.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Mets clutch hitting is horrendous, that's twice they should've blown the game open with Mather on the mound.

    Cards still have a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  130. I love how a Stanley Cup Playoffs open thread has turned into a Mets-Cardinals live blog.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Albert and McCarver calling out LaRussa's idiotic strategy.

Why do you use relief pitchers to hit TWICE in extra innings?

    ReplyDelete
  132. Four pitch walk to Schumaker.

    DOES ANYBODY WANT TO WIN?????

    ReplyDelete
  133. When voting for manager of the year, I hope people remember that LaRussa took out Holliday in this game....

    ReplyDelete
  138. BTW, Canucks lead the Kings 2-0 in the 2nd period of a Stanley Cup Playoff game...

    ReplyDelete
  139. Oh, yeah, there is a hockey game on right now and the Canucks are winning 2-0.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Modin pulls the Kings to within 1!!!

    ReplyDelete
  141. Fredrik Modin scores on the rebound! Kings cut the lead to 2-1.

Nice pass by Jack Johnsn as well.

    ReplyDelete
  142. AND THE KINGS HAVE TIED IT JUST LIKE THAT!!!

    ReplyDelete
  143. Wayne Simmonds finishes off a 3 on 1, great pass from Anze Kopitar. 2-2 game.

The Sedins and Burrows nearly scored right before that goal.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Halpern to the box, Kings power play.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Halpern to the box, Canucks power play. /Fixed

  151. I am really struggling with the concept of time in my life right now.

I've been reading some bios of hockey bloggers I read a lot and one of my favorite things is reading they got hooked in, let's say 1995, and me instantly thinking "Really? This guy's a bandwagoner" only to read the next sentence and learn that he was 6-years old at the time and falling in love with hockey for the first time.

I need to grasp that the mid 90s was 15 years ago. I am currently failing at that.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Kesler nearly scored shorthanded!

Luongo grabs the low shot by Modin!

    ReplyDelete
  159. If there is one thing that these playoffs are doing and reading some, it is making me respect the Penguins and some of their fans more and the Devils and some of their fans a lot less.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Four minutes left...

Long shift for the Sedins, they get off after 2:00 of ice time.

    ReplyDelete
  161. I thought I saw that one go in......

    ReplyDelete
  162. Heavy pressure from the Canucks but the Kings escape.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Kings called and/or charged with a timeout. Simmonds broke his stick.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Under a minute...26 seconds to be exact.

    ReplyDelete
