We've got JR on NBC again and the Flyers playing at 6. Let's make this our day. LET'S GO FLYERS!!!
Game 3: Phoenix @ Detroit 3:00 (NBC - Mike Emrick and Eddie Olczyk, ItG: Mike Milbury) (TSN)
Game 3: New Jersey @ Philadelphia 6:00 (TSN - Gord Miller, ItG: Pierre McGuire)
Game 3: Pittsburgh @ Ottawa 6:30 (Versus - John Forslund and Darren Eliot, SR: Charissa Thompson) (CBC - Bob Cole and Garry Galley, ItG: Glenn Healy, SR: Elliotte Friedman)
Game 2: Nashville @ Chicago 8:30 (Versus) (TSN - Chris Cuthbert, ItG: Ray Ferraro)
Game 3: San Jose @ Colorado 9:30 (Versus) (CBC - Mark Lee and Kevin Weekes)
Hmmmm...might have to watch NBC for the trainwreck.
ReplyDeleteIs it Okay if I watch the Thunder-Lakers game and comment here?
ReplyDeletethat game actually interests me more than the hockey game, Keith
ReplyDelete@ KeitH: Go ahead.
ReplyDeleteThat's actually the only NBA series that remotely interests me....
ReplyDeleteYou've got another chance, JR! Punch him! Punch him now!
ReplyDeleteAhahahaaha.....Roenick and Milbury are back together! Knock his ass out, JR!
ReplyDeleteWhat??? It's Milbury Inside the Glass and not JR???
ReplyDeleteB.L.E.H.
Chase Utley is amazing. Our offense needs to wake up.
ReplyDeleteAl Sabotka drops the octopi! That thing is slippery.
ReplyDeleteSami Lepisto scores at 29 seconds! 1-0 Phoenix!
ReplyDeletethe Phoenix Bettmans score 29 seconds into the game
ReplyDelete1-0 Coyotes!!! AWOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOkay everybody, raise your hand if you thought you would be seeing the Phoenix Coyotes on NBC in late April this year!
ReplyDeleteBryzgalov robs Lidstrom.
ReplyDeleteonly 13 points for OKC in the 1st
ReplyDeleteverification: Giants
@JFein No, I didn't think they would be the Phoenix Coyotes. Dave Strader, their TV announcer, wasn't sure if he would have a job during the last offseason. He talked about it on his blog.
ReplyDeleteNBA Playoffs have been underwhelming. I understand it's one day but the early NHL rounds are almost always more entertaining.
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be a real shame if Cole Hamels does not get a win in this game.
ReplyDeleteHe's pitched brilliantly. Our offense has not played as such.
Bertuzzi almost had a great chance if he could've controlled that pass.
ReplyDelete@JFein The Brewers scored 10 runs in the 1st against the Nats today.
ReplyDelete@ kt: Haha!
ReplyDelete@ Al: I absolutely agree. To me, it seems like there is more parity in the NHL whereas the NBA is more the top 2 or 3 teams, and then the rest of the class behind them.
"I thought Avatar was still in the theaters" JVG
ReplyDeleteHamels has thrown 8 innings, has allowed only 6 hits, one 325 foot homerun, retired the last 11 batters, and is currently in jeopardy of getting the loss.
ReplyDeleteCome on Phils. Get the win for Cole!
Korpikowski with the PHX penalty, Milbury wanted a more physical play if he was going to take a dumb penalty.
ReplyDeletethe Lakers are on fire
ReplyDeleteFilpula ties it at 1. The Phils still can't get any offense going.
ReplyDeleteBleh.
Filppula scores, off the post and Bryz. 1-1 tie.
ReplyDeleteDraper takes down Yandle, DET penalty.
ReplyDeleteNo CG for Cole Hamels. He's being taken out in the top of the 9th with a runner on first. He pitched great today but the offense has given him zilch.
ReplyDelete1-0 in the top of the 9th with Uggla coming to the plate and a reliever entering the game.
Ryan Madson comes in for the Phillies.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it odd that both NBC and ABC are currently showing one of their league's biggest ratings draws against a team that has not been on network TV in years.
Red Wings kill the Yotes PP and now they will one.
ReplyDeleteRBI double for Uggla off of Madson. 2-0 Fishies.
ReplyDeleteHamels deserves better than this.
Milbury thinks neither team deserve their power plays, believes it should be 4-on-4.
ReplyDelete@JFein On NBC and ABC, Yes. Both of the non-network TV teams, PHX and OKC, also moved from Winnipeg and Seattle, respectively. They weren't in stable ownership situations.
ReplyDelete"What do you think that youngster would like the most today?" - Tom McCarthy
ReplyDelete"A Clammy Sosa." - Chris Wheeler
Yes! Jim Palmer is back!
ReplyDeleteThunder has made a nice run late in this half. Their within 8.
ReplyDeleteGround out for Gload. 1 down in the bottom of the 9th.
ReplyDeleteNow for Ibanez.
Ibanez strikes out. Bleh.
ReplyDeleteGreg Dobbs is our last hope in this game. We're screwed.
Hamels pitches a gem, only to lose 2-0.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading accounts on Twitter that Jobing.com Arena louder and the fans wer more into it there then they are now at the Joe.
ReplyDeleteGo Yotes!
"You can't have an active stick when it's not on the ice." - Eddie Olczyk
ReplyDeletereally, really impressed with the Thunder right now
ReplyDelete@JFein Even the Wings fans in Phoenix were louder.
ReplyDeleteShane Doan (PHX) and Brian Rafalski (DET) not on their team's benches.
ReplyDelete2 2-out RBI hits for the O's?
ReplyDeleteit's the Apocalypse people...
Did that go in/
ReplyDeletePlay under review, puck under Howard along the line.
ReplyDeleteIt's a conspiracy! A conspiracy I say!
ReplyDeleteNo goal, Milbury is turning into a ref today.
ReplyDeleteNo Wings goal now! Quick whistle
Doan out w/ an upper-body injury.
ReplyDeleteAWOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletePyatt misses wide but a couple of rushes later Wolski makes up for it. 2-1 Yotes!
ReplyDelete@JFein really? a howl?
ReplyDeleteLakers up 11 on the Thunder.
ReplyDeleteRed Wings out-hitting the Coyotes 30-20 but they trail. Phoenix is playing much smarter than in game 2.
ReplyDelete@ kt: It's the Coyotes' chant.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to grab something to eat.
ReplyDeleteI should be back hopefully by the end of the Yotes/Wings game and start of Devils/Flyers.
3-1 Yotes as Prucha and Vrbata execute the give-and-go. I didn't see this coming after Doan was injured, I'm impressed.
ReplyDeleteFranzen from in tight, roof shot! 3-2 game.
ReplyDeleteShot, score! Vrbata! 4-2 PHX.
ReplyDeleteThe Coyotes always have an answer for the Wings.
And Howard let in a soft one according to Milbury.
Red Wings playing hard now that they're trailing by 2.
ReplyDeleteWhere was this effort before?
Thank God Bill McCreary wasn't reffing in DC last night
ReplyDelete/quick whistle'd
No goal again, whistle before.
ReplyDeleteIs it sad that Mike Milbury has far surpassed any of my expectations inside the glass?
ReplyDelete"Minor penalty on Phoenix, and they'll laugh about it and serve the rest of it in the shower" Emrick
ReplyDeleteThe orange shirts they give out at the Flyers game says "Ready to Rock."
ReplyDeletehttp://www.broadstreethockey.com/2010/4/18/1429360/ecqf-game-3-playoff-hockey-returns#35093442
They've come up with a lot better than this.
Punch him, Jeremy! Punch him! Punch him now!
ReplyDeleteDid Doc just mention the snakes?????????????
ReplyDelete@JFein Ready to Rock? don't Philly fans mock the 'Rock the Red' Caps slogan?
ReplyDeleteWhat is it with Bill Clement and the oddly matched shirts and ties this series?
ReplyDeleteIt truly is amazing that none of these first round playoff series are ending in sweeps.
ReplyDeleteYet another reasons Stanley Cup Playoffs > NBA Playoffs.
@kt1000 Gotta love those 5-on-3s down 2 goals with 5 seconds left. /Sarcasm
ReplyDeleteBOOOOOOOOOOSH!
ReplyDelete@ Al: They've been known to cost teams many a game in the past....
ReplyDelete@JFein while the action in the Stanley Cup playoffs is better, at least I get to see all of the NBA playoff games on TV. I don't think I'll get to see any of Philly and NJ.
ReplyDeleteThis is why I love golf: During a playoff w/ Jim Furyk,Brian Davis calls a 2 stroke penalty on himself, giving Furyk the tournament. In what other sport would that happen?
ReplyDeleteCrap. Rolston makes it 1-0 New Jersey.
ReplyDelete3 penalties in 8 minutes will make that happen.
@ kt: You will if the Phoenix-Detroit series is over in 5 and this series goes to Game 6.
ReplyDeleteGood grief the refs are taking over this game.
ReplyDeleteSCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@kt1000 I was about to bring it up. Bigs props to Brian Davis for admitting his mistake, he didn't do it on purpose but hit the loose pediment (?).
ReplyDeleteNice job by Furyk finishing off with a par anyway.
I freaking love Claude Giroux.
ReplyDeleteHoly hell. These are the 5th and 6th penalties called in this game. Oh, and it's only 10 minutes into the game.
ReplyDeleteAnd 7th.
ReplyDelete@Al The reed was a loose impediment. Davis hit it on the backswing, which is a penalty in golf, but had he hit it on the downswing right before hitting the ball, there would have been no penalty. About as dumb the multiple rules in the NHL when someone shoots a puck out of play.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU TY WIGGINTON!
our long national nightmare is over: Orioles win!
ReplyDelete@kt Thanks, I'm not a golf rules expert. I'm a casual fan. I don't Davis would've won anyway if there was no penalty but he showed something by calling before anybody else did.
ReplyDeleteAnd the NHL's shooting the puck over the glass rule is beyond dumb. Buffalo lost to Carolina in gm 7 of the 2006 ECF because of that rule.
@kt Congratulations! At least 1 D.C./MD baseball team won today.
ReplyDeletePenguins on the board 1:17 into the game
ReplyDeleteElliott gives Ponikarovski a gift goal. 1-0 Pens.
ReplyDeleteFUCK MANNY RAMIREZ! That is all.
ReplyDelete1-1 after 1.
ReplyDeleteThese refs are terrible.
I'm sure no one cares, but Kevin McHale is so far superior to Reggie Miller as an analyst it's laughable. I hope Turner takes this into consideration when they're picking announcers for next year's NCAA Tournament.
ReplyDeleteNeil called for high-sticking Kennedy near the benches, PIT pp.
ReplyDeleteSens kill the penalty.
ReplyDelete@Kris: Bill Simmons was right. Kevin McHale could have been bigger than Charles Barkley as an announcer. Too bad he choose to run the Timberwolves into the ground.
ReplyDeleteSens kill their 2nd penalty...
ReplyDeleteI gave up after the 1st inning but the Nats only lost 11-7 after trailing 10-0, moral victory for the Nats.
ReplyDelete@Keith Agreed. Just hope some dumb NBA owner doesn't give McHale a 2nd chance to mismanage a franchise.
ReplyDeletePeter Regin pokes it by Fleury! Tie game in OTT!
ReplyDeleteThat shouldn't count, Regin kicked it.
ReplyDeleteGood call, war room says no goal. Still 1-0.
ReplyDeleteOMGAGNE HOW DID HE MISS THAT????
ReplyDeleteHere's an oddity, Jim Jackson, who is currently calling the Flyers game, called 2 innings of the Phillies game on radio today.
ReplyDeleteDid Zubrus' junk just score a goal?
ReplyDeleteWatching Baseball Tonight, it's Vin Scully's 60th anniversary calling Dodgers games.
ReplyDeleteMike Fisher ties the game in Ottawa.
Penguins got away with a clear trip.
ReplyDeleteLook at that Sens crowd.
ReplyDeleteCanadian crowds offer a better atmosphere than most American teams.
Brilliant counterattack goal by the Pens.
ReplyDeleteOttawa does everything but score, Pittsburgh comes down and Malkin scores. 2-1 Pens.
ReplyDeleteMalkin with a cherry-picking shift for the ages. He did nothing defensively and just moved the puck.
It seems like they're been more shots on goal, only 10-8 PIT.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. JJ and Clement are interviewing Gary Bettman?????????
ReplyDeleteRefs are letting the boys play in this Sens/Pens game. No slash or boarding on that Penguins attack.
ReplyDeleteEntertaining game between Orland and Charlotte.
ReplyDelete@ SSR: I have never been to a Canadian hockey game, but the Flyers offer one heck of a hockey atmosphere at their home games.
ReplyDelete@ Al: I wish I could say the same about the Devils-Flyers game. Officiating here has been ticky-tacky and inconsistent and all around terrible.
ReplyDelete@JFein Well, that would the nummber of penalties.
ReplyDeleteOrlando leads 85-80, 2:43 left. Charlotte ball.
*explain the # of penalties
ReplyDelete87-82 Orlando, Pietrus for three! 90-82.
ReplyDeleteFelton makes it 90-84
That Pietrus three was awesome.
ReplyDelete92-84 Orlando now.
ReplyDeleteErik Karlsson cuts an OTT pp short with a slashing penalty, rookie mistake.
Charlotte not done yet.
ReplyDeleteCrosby with a great goal, driving to the front of the goal.
ReplyDelete"BACKBREAKER!"- Steve Buckhantz'd
Great finish to the Charlotte-Orlando game.
ReplyDeleteBoy, I was redundant, "great goal...to the front of the goal".
ReplyDeleteBig-time Versus fail on the scoreboard, wrong score and logos for Habs and Caps.
ReplyDeleteDick Stockton is calling the Spurs-Mavericks game.
ReplyDelete/Sigh
//The Sharks game can't start fast enough.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThey get the correct score but still use the wrong logos.
ReplyDeleteI swear volunteers at Montgomery Commmunity Television could do a better job.
Martin Brodeur circa 2000 has arrived in the Wachovia Center.
ReplyDeleteBrodeur just robbed Briere. That was robbery.
ReplyDeleteIf anybody is wondering what happened, they had the Pens-Sens score as 2-1 Pens even though it was 3-1 and the team logos were not Ottawa's or Pittsburgh's.
ReplyDeleteThis game is currently eating away at my life.......
ReplyDelete@JFein Not good considerring who won that series in 2000.
ReplyDeletePierre talking about his Monsters of the Night. Interesting to see who he'll choose if the Flyers win.
ReplyDeleteGord just mentioned that Brodeur isn't a great OT goalie
ReplyDeleteOvertime in Philadelphia. Tied at 2.
ReplyDeleteThank you Versus for showing Devils-Flyers instead of the Penguins for once, wait...
ReplyDelete3 playoff games for Gord & Pierre. 3 OT games.
ReplyDeleteURGENT MESSAGE: All overtime playoff games to be 4-on-4 for five minutes and decided by a shootout if still tied after five minutes. This new rule is effective immediately. On second thought, instead of 4-on-4, let’s do 5-on-3. Choose your three best players, Flyers. You’ll need ’em.
ReplyDelete- G. Bettman
Fleury just took one away from Alfie...That was close.
ReplyDeleteFleury clears away a puck right at the goal line! Sens nearly got back in it.
ReplyDeleteGuerin scores on a breakaway, 4-1 Pens.
ReplyDeleteGuerin scores to put it on ice
ReplyDeleteUnderway in Chicago. Nice to hear Cuthbert on the call instead of local jocks.
ReplyDeleteWent to the Phillies game. Lost 2-0 ON THE PHANATIC'S BIRTHDAY! First time that's ever happened BTW.
ReplyDelete@ flmesfn: I still have not figured out why Cuthbert and Ferraro are not doing this game when they did the other 2 Flyers-Devils games on TSN......
ReplyDeleteBrodeur is robbing everything.
ReplyDeleteClarkson called for a penalty, Flyers on PP.
@ JC: Phils have never lost on Phanatic's b-day before?? I did not know that.
ReplyDelete@Justin: WHLM-AM (930 AM) is doing Phillies games now in Bloomsburg.
ReplyDeleteI can't sit down now.
ReplyDeleteThis PIT-OTT will end with the Penguins winning in 5.
ReplyDeleteSenators are overreacting to everything now. Alfredsson shoved Orpik while he was on the ground after he fell.
Kneeign penalty.
@JFein Travel. Cuthbert/Ferraro are doing the Otes/Wings game Tuesday & Gord/Pierre are doing Caps/Habs tomorrow. TSN has only 1 produced game in Philly as it'll be on TSN2 Tuesday night.
ReplyDelete@Justin: They've lost seven or eight games on the Phanatic's B-day. This was the first time they were shut out.
ReplyDeleteCARBOMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteCarcillo FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brodeur still has ot issues.
ReplyDeleteWINNER WINNER CHICKEN PARM DINNER DAN CARICILLO BEATING MARTIN BRODEUR LIKE A RENTED MULE!
ReplyDeleteToews hit crossbar!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete"Ugh. Unbelieavble. This sport sucks." -Steve Lepore'd
ReplyDeleteWow Hawks just got robbed of a goal. That was a crazy quick whistle & Rinne didn't control the puck.
ReplyDeleteHawks fans are letting the refs know it.
Versus hasn't shown a highlight of the winning goal yet and had a great chance to after the commercial.
ReplyDeleteWow. This was the first OT winner for the Flyers since Joffrey Lupul in 2008 beat the Capitals in Game 7.
ReplyDeleteThey just showed a 5-second clip of Carcillo scoring.
ReplyDeleteOTT pp w/ 1:57 and they're pulling the goalie, down by 2.
The fact that the Flyers somehow stole this game does not change the fact that the officiating was terrible.
ReplyDeleteJust how terrible was it? both Flyers fans and Devils fans at one point or another went ape shit? Flyers fans for most of the game. Devils fans now.
@JFein Thanks for the flashback. /Sarcasm
ReplyDeleteCaps OT win last night was their first at home since 1998 vs. BUF.
Versus might as well have a long intermission break. Period almost over in Chicago.
ReplyDelete@JFein I don't think those refs will advance to the 2nd round. When both teams' fans are ticked off, you know you did a bad job.
ReplyDeleteScoreless in Chicago after 20
ReplyDeleteI've got a paper to work on so I don't think I'll be watching any more hockey tonight. Feel free to keep commenting though and I wlll chat with you all later.
ReplyDeleteBolland on the backhand, 1-0 Chicago.
ReplyDeleteAnother power play for the Blackhawks after the TV timeout.
ReplyDeleteRinne robs Hossa!
ReplyDeleteAnother power play for the Blackhawks...
ReplyDeleteShea Weber just cracked a piece of glass with his shot.
ReplyDeleteCanucks were irate over the too many on the ice call in OT last night.
ReplyDeleteAlain Vigneault was arguing thsta Bieksa was going off the ice when the puck hit him.
He thinks the man coming on the bench should only be judged on playing the puck during a line change.
Steve Konroyd is worried about the ice conditions in Nashville next week.
ReplyDeletePat Foley is worried about the 3rd period conditions (i.e. Hawks lead) in Chicago tonight.
Still 1-0 Hawks, 16:00 left in regulation.
ReplyDeleteChicago should be winning 4-0 if they finished their chances...
Patrick Kane does! 2-0 Hawks.
Hjalmarsson and Versteeg have made great defensive plays to not allow Nashville shots in two different situations.
ReplyDeleteSopel blocks Boyd's centering pass, that's 2 gems from him.
ReplyDeleteDuncan Keith takes a penalty, NSH power play.
Here's the video of Carcillo's game-winning OT goal with Gord Miller (a.k.a. Canada's version of Gus Johnson) on the call for TSN.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-lt5sq37hU&feature=player_embedded#!
Under 3 minutes left, NSH power play down 2 goals.
ReplyDeleteYou guys watching the Sharks-Avs game? It's been crazy with outstanding goalkeeping by both guys.
ReplyDelete@JFein I think Gord should be more enthuiastic in his play-by-play. /Sarcasm
ReplyDeleteBTW, I've enjoyed Pat Foley and Steve Konroyd on CSN Chicago for the first 2 games of NSH/CHI.
Niemi stones the Preds in close.
"Niemi no-no" -Foley on the shutout.
@49er16 I'm about to when Versus switches over.
ReplyDeleteHow incredible is it that every single series in these playoffs was tied 1-1 after 2 games.
ReplyDeleteInsane.
BTW, Randy Hahn and Drew Remenda on CSN California are also very good.
ReplyDelete@Al: You missed it early. Remenda was was very critical of Marleau(He was right though about Marleau.) The thing we like the most about these guys is they aren't huge homers.
ReplyDelete@JFein Best start to the NHL Playoffs in a long time.
ReplyDelete@49er16 That's what I like and they're entertaining.
ReplyDeleteI wish we had them in D.C. over Beninati and Laughling, honestly.
@We're very fortunate to have Hahn and Remenda.
ReplyDeleteSOG 28-3 Sharks since the 1st period?! Are the Avs playing besides Anderson?
ReplyDelete@Al: To be fair, both goalies are outstanding tonight. Even Nabby has made some spectacular saves tonight.
ReplyDeletelooks like I picked a good time to turn the TV back on
ReplyDeleteBlind backhand passes at the defensive blue line are not good plays.
ReplyDeleteNABOKOV!!!!
ReplyDeleteNo excuses tonight if the Sharks lose. Nabby has played well and they have had their chances.
ReplyDeleteSharks going to the Power Play...cross check on the Avs
ReplyDeleteAnderson robs Marleau. Sharks PP coming up.
ReplyDeleteThe Avs have absolutely abused Logan Couture tonight. The kid finally draws a penalty though.
ReplyDelete
