Your Week 17 NFL Schedule

Here it is! It seems like just yesterday that we were counting down the days to the start of the season and here we are at it's climax. Week 17 with significant seeding on the line in the NFC and a clusterfuck of teams trying to get into the playoffs in the AFC. It is a double double header this week, meaning that most of you will be seeing 4 regional games this week unless you are in a city where a blackout applies. So here are your maps, your schedule of games along with the announcers of each game. Week 17 is upon us. Are you ready?

Map of who gets what CBS early game

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Miami Dolphins 1:00 (CBS - Greg Gumbel and Dan Dierdorf)

Washington Redskins @ San Diego Chargers 4:15 (Fox - Ron Pitts and John Lynch)

Sunday Night Football

Cincinnati Bengals @ New York Jets 8:25 (NBC - Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth)

It is a week like this that I am certainly thankful that I am home during this time of year and that I get NFL Sunday Ticket and their edition of the popular RedZone Channel. Nothing is more thrilling or more dramatic than Week 17 of the NFL especially when there is so much on the line once all of the seeing is cleared up in the NFC, there will be one team and one fanbase watching at NBC at 8:25 PM ET cheering and screaming at the tops of their lungs saying "LET'S GO BENGALS! LET'S GO BENGALS!". And I'm not talking about the Bengals themselves or their fans.

  2. There has got to be a "common sense" corollary to these secondary market rules. I'm off for the rest of the week, so it might be time for an email war with Fox 45.

Free Baltimore Now! No more meaningless Deadskins games!

  3. @ kt: While I do feel your pain, aren't you going to be watching the Ravens game at that time anyway? Or do you just want a reliable back-up choice in case the Ravens choke big and you don't want to turn to Fox to see a even more depressing Deadskins game?

  4. Also @ kt: Try being Mookie. He is stuck with a Titans-Seahawks game on CBS at 4:15 with a blackout on Fox.

  5. True, I do feel Mookie's pain. But, this is the first time since double DH's were implemented that Baltimore will get the 2nd Fox game. I was hoping to see the classic showdown, rather than another preseason game. And yeah, I do expect the Raiders to at least cover, so it'll be a closer game than many expect.

  6. I thought Baltimore wasn't technically a secondary market for the Deadskins. I don't think (except the past week 17 exemptions) Baltimore shows a Deadskins AWAY game on Fox if the Ravens are HOME on CBS. The reverse has happened in the D.C. market.

Personally, I think nobody outside D.C. and San Diego should watch Chargers/Deadskins at 4:15. Those are the only home markets who care about the game.

Chargers have a bye in the 1st round of the POs while Deadskins have a bye into next season. /sarcasm

Baltimore is a secondary Redskins market. And yes you are correct that it is rare for a Skins away game to be on at the same as a Ravens home game. But I know it has happened in the past that when both are on the road at the same time, The Skins are in B'more. Also week 17 of 2007 Ravens and Skins both at home playing at 4:15 versus their #1 rivals(Steelers, Dallas)both teams were on in both cities.

The argument is always there are Skins fans in Howard and AA counties who get 45 but not 5 and deserve to have a chance to watch the Skins. I have no problem with this logic in weeks 1-16, but I think game importance should override regional ties in a situation like this. For everyone else, sorry for this boring dissertation on MD geography.

  8. And now I just realized I was completely wrong when I said I had never seen a double DH. I was blacked out in 2006 & 2008(including the meaningless Deadskins at 49ers in 2008)but did get the aforementioned Dallas/Skins in 2007.

    Sorry for the confusion.

  9. In addition, Al Michaels was on Kornheiser's radio show this morning, and mentioned that he had been preparing to go to Oakland for the Ravens game this Sunday. So, you can thank Jim Caldwell for sparing the country the Raiders on SNF. Michaels also called himself "a pain in the ass," which at least means he's self-aware.

  10. @ kt1000: A lovely dissertation that was, kt. I'm a history major that loves geography (one of the few in this world that do) so it maintained my interest throughout.

Well then! I figured he would have been preparing to go to Dallas.

Actually of the two, I think that Ravens-Raiders is the better game. The Bengals may not play all of their starters for the whole game, especially if New England wins and they are locked in at the 4th seed. The Raiders, on the other hand, were successful spoilers last year. And they are a better team this year that has played tough with and defeated teams in the playoffs this year or are still in the running in the AFC. Whatever you do kt, do not take the Raiders lightly. Them upsetting the Ravens would not be the most surprising thing I have ever seen in the NFL.

Thank you for that detailed dissertation. Anyway, I didn't take into the number of Skins fans in Howard and Anne Arundel County who get WBFF 45 Balt. and not WTTG 5.

They really need to have a principle where D.C. shows Ravens games and Baltimore shows Deadskins games only when the local teams are in playoff contention or affect playoff seeding. WSH/SD accomplishes neither since the Chargers clinched their division and a bye.

Also, can the NFL stop scheduling west coast road games for WSH in week 17? If the Deadskins played an east-coast opponent the last 2 years, we could've seen last year and this year's Eagles/Cowgirls game.

  12. I completely agree with everything you said Al.
