HBO To Premiere BROAD STREET BULLIES Documentary On The Flyers

This one is for all you sports documentary buffs out there. HBO is premiering going to examine the Broad Street Bullies, the nickname of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1970s when they won their 2 Stanley Cups. From the Daily Gazzette.

HBO announced today that it is starting work on the documentary "Broad Street Bullies." It will look back at my rough-and-tumble Philadelphia Flyers of the 1970s, when they fought their way to the top of the NHL and won the Stanley Cup in 1974 and 1975.

"This film will explore how a group of characters, who also happened to be an extraordinarily talented collection of hockey players that enjoyed contact on the ice, formed one of the most prominent and controversial teams in pro sports history," HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg said in a press release. "We are going to re-trace the steps that led to the love affair between the city and the team, and show how to this day these players are revered in Philadelphia and despised elsewhere."

The documentary will air in May.
If ever there was a hockey team that polarized this nation, it was the Philadelphia Flyers of the 70s and even today, Flyers teams have tried to live up to that reputation and precedent set by the Flyers of the 1970s.

As part of the 40th anniversary Flyers 10 Greatest Games DVD set, almost half the games on that set are from this time period and having seen those games, it certainly is no wonder they were polarizing. If you like aggressive, Philadelphia Flyers hockey, then I would highly recommend you check out this documentary for yourself. Not that I've seen it yet personally, but even come close to representing the team the way they looked in those old games, this can't not be good.
