May 12 Stanley Cup Playoffs Open Thread: Keep On Trucking

Game 7: Montreal @ Pittsburgh 7:00 (Versus - Mike Emrick and Darren Eliot, SR: Charissa Thompson) (CBC - Bob Cole and Garry Galley, ItG: Glenn Healey, SR: Elliotte Friedman)

Game 6: Boston @ Philadelphia 8:00 (Versus) (TSN - Gord Miller, ItG: Pierre McGuire)

Just a little FYI, I was hoping to get my first World Cup City Preview post up before this game, but due to my due diligence (i.e. it is taking longer for me to write than I thought it would), it will be up sometime later tonight after the hockey games.

  4. Kunitz gets a goal fot the Pens. It's now 4-1 Montreal.

Jay-Z & Eminem just did an interview (if you call it that) in the booth at the Tigers game (after doing one on ESPN).

  5. @ RJBO: Wow, do I really want to know what the point of that interview was?

  6. It was some concert announcement, JFein.

    STAAL! It ain't over yet...

  7. Jay-Z and Eminem. A concert I would like to avoid.

  8. That was a meh call on Gorges at the end of the 2nd. More than a full minute of 4-on-3 for the Pens.

  9. Per Bill Patrick: No team has ever recovered from a 4-0 deficit to win a Game 7.

What a time for Versus' signal to start acting up.

    /thank God for CBC
//Bob Cole? Well, it's not all good

  10. The Igloo is 20 minutes from closing if the Pens can't come back from the 2-goal defecit.

  11. Jaroslav Halak is amazing. End of story.

  12. @ JC: The first Penguins game at the Igloo was a loss to Montreal.

Make of that what you will....

  13. We are putting together a search party to seek out the whereabouts of Cyndy Crosby. Please sign up at the local lodge.

  14. Rumors are that the first game at the Icebox (my nickname for the new arena) will be against Montreal.

  15. And Marc-Andre Fleury was pulled.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Weather delay in COl for Phils-Rox BTW. If it's posgtponed, we may have an 85th "home game" for the Phils.

  17. That's a very tenuous 3-goal lead against Sidney and the Pens.

    /Bob Cole'd

    As I typed that:
Cole (as a replay of the Gionta goal sends the game to a break): "Happy guy, I guess...."

  18. Flyers need to score again. They are not getting a shutout again and the Bruins are getting lots of pressure now.

  19. Joba strikes out Maggs to end the 8th and he had to make sure he out-douched Jose Valverde walking off the mound.

  20. BRIERE WITH A PP GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2-0 FLYERS!!!!!

A shitload of penalties on both sides preceded that goal.

  21. After Subban takes a shot at the empty net:

Galley: "They're up by a field goal. Why not?"
Cole: "This game ain't over yet."

  22. Le Igloo is closed.

BTW, second game of PHI-COL rained out. No makeup date, but if they can't agree to a date in COL, it could be played in Philly. Stay tuned.

  23. Versus is using the Philly feed for the end of this game.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Those were some great saves by Leighton, by the way.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Checked the MLB schedule online, and September 2 would likely be the makeup date in COL for tonight's rainout. It would have to be a day game as the Phils are in LA the day before.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Why did the Tigers call up Alfredo Figaro?

    /turning a 2-0 deficit into an 8-0 one

    ReplyDelete
  27. LEIGHTON HOLY CRAP!

    Unbelievable.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Leighton channeling his inner Halak again.

    ReplyDelete
  29. BTW, Chicago-San Jose Sunday @ 3 PM on NBC (except in Cleveland, where it will be JIP after Indians-Orioles game)

  30. Penalty shot for Leino, but a great save by Tuukka Rask.

At least his was on net, unlike Giroux's earlier in the series.

  31. An APB has been issued for the missing Boston Bruins offense.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Fleyrs lead 2-0 with less than 2 minutes left.

    This is incredible.

    ReplyDelete
  33. And there will be a tomorrow. More important, a Friday Game 7.

    ReplyDelete
  34. WE'VE GOT A GAME SEVEN!

This, my friends, is un-fucking real.

  36. 6th time ever that a team has been down 3-0 in a Stanley Cup playoffs series and came all the way back to force a Game 7.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Bruins trying their best to do the reverse '04 Red Sox.

    ReplyDelete
  38. The last team in the NHL to even comeback and force a Game 7 after being down 3-0 was the 1975 Islanders.

Suffice to say, history was made tonight.
