May 24 Stanley Cup Playoffs Open Thread: I've Been Waiting For This Day Since 2004
LET'S GO FLY-ERS! CLAP-CLAP CLAP-CLAP-CLAP
Game 5: Montreal @ Philadelphia 7:00 (Versus - Joe Beninati and Daryl Reaugh, SR: Charissa Thompson) (CBC - Bob Cole and Garry Galley, ItG: Glenn Healy, SR: Elliotte Friedman)
If you haven't read it yet, be sure to check out the post I did on Montreal's past 5 elimination games. It is now under the recommended fanposts at BSH. ;-)

To read it at BSH (same thing, but with tons of praise in the comments and currently 7 recs): http://www.broadstreethockey.com/2010/5/24/1484924/a-look-back-at-montreals-past-5
Please hang on, Flyers. Please hang on. As much as I said going into this thing that I did not think the Flyers had a chance, I have never been prouder to be a fan of this team and am damn proud to say that I have followed them all season.
I kinda hate the Flyers. They're a really dirty team (just hit people, whether it's legal or not), but the Habs are just a soft team with an atrocious power play. Congrats on making it...and to think you were bitching about the shootout that got them here.
The Blackhawks are probably going to smash the Flyers. I think I'm going to root for the Stanley Cup to be cancelled. Chalk this one up in this most angering sports season for me.
Trust me, I've followed this team all year. I have complimented them when they deserved compliments. I have criticized them when they deserved to be criticized, if not here, then on Twitter. They may not be perfectly clean on every play. Mistakes are made and heat of the moment stupidity take forefront once in a while, but if there is a truth to be had about this incarnation of this Flyers team, it is this: They are not a dirty team. That's not to say that there have not been mistakes or a player commits an occasional dirty play. That being said, I dare you to find a team this year that has not had a player or players commit a dirty play or 2 this season. If you want to pursue this discussion further, that is your choice, but I will defend my team from that false accusation to its death.
@ JC: So what? Sidney Crosby touched it last year, and look how that worked out for him.

I hate it when these patterns continue.
ReplyDeleteMake that 4 of 6 elimination games where the Habs scored the 1st goal in the 1st 2 minutes of the game.
Now a Montreal PP. This game could not have started worse.
ReplyDeleteHOLY SHIT THAT WAS ONE OF THE MOST AWESOMEST GOALS I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!! MIKE FUCKING RICHARDS!!!!! A SHORTIE!!! TIED AT 1!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love Giroux. So much.
ReplyDeletethat was the goal/break the Caps never could get playing these guys.
ReplyDeleteGeez. The Flyers need to play this entire game short-handed. It might be their only way to win.
ReplyDeleteNo goal, but that PP got better towards the end.
ReplyDeleteAwesome .GIF of Richards' goal.

Habs-You-Suck! CLAP CLAP CLAPCLAPCLAP!
ReplyDeleteAwesome.
Oh Asham...........so close.
ReplyDelete@ JC: Because those chants work so well with Crosby......
ReplyDelete/Can't we just stick to the mock "OLEing?"
I gotta feelin that Les Habs will be Bruin tonight.
ReplyDeleteBruin in Flyers Urban Dictionary = Choke.
While things could not have started worse, the Flyers responded nicely and Richards’ shortie was nothing short of epic.
ReplyDeleteI would prefer to be tied at 0-0 then 1-1 at this point, but at least we are tied and are not being buried by the Habs.
The Habs are 1-0 in elimination games when being tied at the 1st intermission. That tie was also a 1-1 tie (Game 6 PIT).
That was my first time seeing Laviolette's guarantee.
ReplyDelete"We're going to win this hockey game." - Lavi
Awesome.
"Both teams are putting up a fight tonight." - Joe Beninati after they used "Without a Fight" by Hoobastank as bump music.
ReplyDeleteBeninati just mentioned our orange. He's in heaven tonight.
ReplyDeleteASHAM SMASHEM!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd Ashem made Malin lose his liquor license!
ReplyDelete/Mike Lange'd.
CARTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd the mocking "Ole" chant begins.
ReplyDelete"This is not soccer." - Joe Beninati
ReplyDeleteReally? Are you sure?
I <3 the mock "OLEs."
ReplyDeleteI really can't believe this.
ReplyDeletePlease hang on, Flyers. Please hang on. As much as I said going into this thing that I did not think the Flyers had a chance, I have never been prouder to be a fan of this team and am damn proud to say that I have followed them all season.
"Flyers fans hoping to let out a huge roar in 13 minutes." - Joe Beninati
ReplyDeleteGuess what just played? Yep. "Let It Out" by Hoobastank
"3-1 Philadelphia. They needed that."
ReplyDeleteOh come on Bob Cole at least know the score.
Crap. 3-2 Flyers now and Habs are threatening some more.
ReplyDeleteWhat is Beninati talking about? A shass??
ReplyDeletePronger messes up.
ReplyDelete"Right off the fundamin." - Razor
ReplyDelete@ SSR: I think Subban just bit his tounge to draw the extra 2....
ReplyDeleteWhy do the Flyers and the Habs pick this game to play the close game? Why? Why? Why?
ReplyDeletePronger is back on the ice and rested.
ReplyDelete"Here in Philadelphia, where they make the pretty good cheesesteaks." - Joe Beninati
ReplyDelete2 MINUTES!
ReplyDelete58.9 LEFT!
ReplyDeleteI'm crying.
ReplyDeleteSTANLEY CUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSTANLEY CUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWE'RE GOING TO THE STANLEY CUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI kinda hate the Flyers. They're a really dirty team (just hit people, whether it's legal or not), but the Habs are just a soft team with an atrocious power play. Congrats on making it...and to think you were bitching about the shootout that got them here.

We're doomed.
ReplyDeleteRichards took the Prince of Wales Trophy.
They're a really dirty team.
