Introducing The FARNies!

As hard as it is to believe, next Tuesday, November 17 is the 1-year anniversary of FARN!. When I first started this back then, frankly, I did not know what I was going to be doing with it. Seeing as AA was out for the year on MNFs, I thought that I could use my spot as a place for MNF live blogs, Eagles live blogs, and really, not much more else. But here I am, 874 posts later, feeling quite accomplished at what I've become. I've got a Twitter account followed by the HHR guys and former MLB scout turned Fanhouse analyst, Frankie Piliere (they both found me before I found them), I've live blogged some of the biggest sports moments this past year, and have met a bunch of wonderful people that I would not have gotten to meet had I not been doing this.

Okay, enough with the sappy shit and onto the fun stuff. The reason I am posting this now is because I want to introduce to you the FARNies! The FARNies will be some awards that will be given out on the 17th of November to commemorate the 1-year anniversary of Fire Andy Reid Now! Now I'm going to need your help in doing so. I am going to need your help in determining the winners of these awards, especially seeing as I have quite the bias in some of the areas. I have some of the awards listed below and some of my favorites in each category, but feel free to add your own nominees categories. I'll be more than happy to consider any and all suggestions!

Favorite Live Blog: NFC Championship - Eagles vs. Cardinals, Elite 8 Live Blog - Pitt vs. Villanova, Big East Tournament quarterfinals live blog (sadly, CiL blogs are removed after 4 months after the event so you're just going to have to go from memory on those; to make it fair to all, I won't hyperlink the Eagles-Cards blog which was not a CiL blog; it's kind of useless to hyperlink to posts with no longer archived live blog)

Favorite rant: People at PETA are officially insance, Fire Keith Olbermann Now!, Eagles Week 16 loss to the Redskins

Favorite moment of porn/pornographic references: Ernie Arnastos imploration to "Keep fucking that chicken", Sarge's lecture about jerking off, Local Arizona affiliate interrupts Super Bowl for guy shaking his junk around, Kid blows Hurricane fan

Douche bag of the year: Keith Olbermann, "Officer" Robert Powell, Jerry Jones, Colin Cowherd

The Golden Mic Award: This special award is for excellence in the booth by providing top notch PbP, analysis, and excelling in the field. To honor the specialness of the honor, all nominees are video nominees:

1. Chip Caray

2. Pam Ward

3. Joe Beninati

4. Dick Stockton

The greatness that those 4 provide to broadcasts is just so heart-warming and so nice to see. It brings a tear to my eye just thinking about how great they are.

That's it for now. If you have any other categories or any additional nominees for any of the aforementioned categories, please state them in the comments section.

Thanks you for your patronage during this incredible year of sports. You can email me your votes at fireandyreidnow@gmail.com or you can vote in the comments section, I don't really care. I will weigh all the options and will have the winners for you next Tuesday. Vote wisely!

  1. The Live Blog category is a tough choice...I wasn't around yet for the NCAA Basketball ones(sadly)but I can't decide between:

MLB ASG[the one where JFein didn't ruin it ;-)]

    USA/Mexico on mun2

Phillies/Giants (the one where Keith had way too much TMI)

screw it..i'm voting for USA/Mexico on the theory that the altitude and the smog beat out lack of CIL

  3. @ Keith: Wait, WHAT??? Wow.....I never noticed that.

Completely random and OT, but the 6 OT game is currently airing now on ESPN Classic!!!

Guess what I'm watching now. ;-)

  4. @ kt: I was in Europe for the all-star game, so therefore, that's automatically my least favorite live blog. ;-)

I forgot about the mun2 game and I'd rather not relive the memories of Keith's junk.

The Nova game was my favorite because I think everyone was laughing so hard. Everyone's jokes were on their A-game and the ending was only somewhat TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!!!!

Although the Big East quarterfinals (including staying up for the 6 OT) was awesome despite the fact everyone else had left and the Eagles NFC title game was my first real big live blog.

  5. JFein i too stayed up for all 6 OT's. One of the most incredible games i have ever watched. I especially liked how hoarse Raftery was by the end.

  6. That may have been one of, if not the, greatest college basketball games I have ever seen.

McDonough and Raft were great during that game as well.

I know the results, it's not into the OTs yet, and yet I'm into it all over again. Incredible game.

    3) Hurricane fan (uh...no comment)
