NHL Playoffs Day 2 Open Thread

Tonight's games...

Game 1: Montreal @ Boston 7:00 PM (CBC - Bob Cole and Greg Millen, SR: Elliotte Friedman) (RDS)

Game 1: Columbus @ Detorit 7:00 PM (Versus - Joe Beninati and Darren Eliot, SR: John Harwood) (TSN2 - Will air U.S. broadcast)

Game 1: Calgary @ Chicago 8:30 PM (Versus - Will JIP TSN broadcast) (TSN - Chris Cuthbert and Pierre McGuire, SR: Jermain Franklin)

Game 1: Anaheim @ San Jose 10:30 PM (Versus - will JIP FSN-BA broadcast) (CBC - Mark Lee and Marc Crawford) (RDS)

I will be out for the first part of the evening tonight due to an end of year banquet for my major. I have never been to this annual event before so I can't tell you how long I'll be, but I am ball parking my return between 8 and 8:30 ET. Then again, I was fairly certain I'd be home before faceoff of the Flyers-Pens game last night, but I sort of missed that as evidenced by the fact that when I turned the TV on, the Pens were celebrating their 1st goal. Leave comments, but most of all, enjoy the games!

  1. I am not sure yet, if I will do a Sharks-Ducks Live Blog yet.

  2. Maybe my eye sight is getting worse, but I can't see the time of the game on the Versus broadcast.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I'm back!

I'd be there and join in if you did.

  4. "Only 1:03 left in the....take advantage of the span." - Grandpa Bob Cole

  5. I'm currently watching Bruins and Canadians on NESN.

And yes, I am stuck with the ultra-annoying Jack Edwards.

    ReplyDelete
  6. KOVALEV SCORES A BULLET JUST SECONDS AFTER THEIR POWER PLAY ENDED!!! WHAT A SHOT!!!

And Bob Cole didn't realize it was in the net until 2 seconds later.

    2-2 game now.

  7. I turn my back for 10 minutes and there has been 4 goals scored in this Blue Jackets-Red Wings game.

    ReplyDelete
  8. @JFein, do you have a class tomorrow.

I am just wondering because the Sharks-Ducks game doesn't start till real late your time.

  9. "Osgood has been marvelous in the first and steady as she goes in the 2nd." - Joe Beninati

And can I kill this stream website? My 2 options are NESN and VS!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yes, I have a class at 9:00 AM tomorrow. I'll be fine. The game should be over at around 1, which gives me 7 hours of sleep which is enough for me. Unless it's a blowout or I get a bad stream, I'll probably watch the whole thing. But this site, aside from a few pauses, as been pretty solid.

    3-1 Detroit after 2.

  11. HOLY FUCK A BLACK HOCKEY PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. All right JFein, I will send you the normal CIL e-mail.

    ReplyDelete
  13. PJ Stock, for once in your Hockey Night in Canada career, MAKE SENSE AND SPEAK PROPERLY!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. How does CBC use CiL? They blog the game as well?...

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm currently watching the Flames and the Blackhawks on a TSN stream.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ah, the downside of watching streams....I have no idea when games return from intermission. Back to the NESN stream to see the end of Habs-Bruins.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I've got an Ashley Madison ad at the bottom of my stream!

Who are you guys doing after the games? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yeah they use it to live blog games.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I am on the CBC live blog right now.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Is anyone of particular note doing the live blogs (i.e. a well-known CBC personality or is it just some schmuck they found off the streets).

    ReplyDelete
  21. "Now Kubasew....er Lucic went in there." - Bob Cole

    ReplyDelete
  22. "He is making things happen in front." - Jack Edwards

    ReplyDelete
  23. "SHOT!! SCORES!!!! I DON'T THINK SO!! THE REFEREE AGREES WITH ME THAT IT HIT THE POST!!" - Cole

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well Boston scores seconds later on a Chara shot. 3-2 Boston.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh, the iron was downright rude!

"Price saw his goaltending life to flash before his eyes." - Jack Edwards on an incredible save by Price where he rescued puck squeezed through him but he grabbed it before it went in.

CHARA SCORES!!! 3-2 BOSTON AND JACK EDWARDS JUST HAD AN ANNURISM!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh man, I really wish I had the CBC broadcast for this game. Bob Cole sounds like he's Dick Stockton on steriods.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Annurism? That's not even close to being right. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Where can I watch a live stream of the Bruins-Habs game?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Iron unkind to Kessel!

    /Brando'd again.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Coles messes up another name when Boston hit the crossbar. His identification of players is awful.

    ReplyDelete
  31. This is by far Bob Cole's best work.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I am under Sharks Fan over at the CBC live blog.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Go to www.channelsurfing.net and scroll down much. And just click on the link that says, "NHL - Montreal vs NY Boston 7:00PM EST 4/16".

This is the NESN feed. I'm not sure what, if anything, is being streamed over at justin.tv.

And I knew what I meant but that was not it...;-)

    ReplyDelete
  34. "The Canadiens have to keep coming." - Bob Cole

    ReplyDelete
  35. After watching that video, SSR, I've never been happier to be listening to Jack Edwards in my life!

    ReplyDelete
  36. "The U vs. Ohio St."- Joe Beninati

Um Joe, Michigan goes by Big Blue and not the U.

    ReplyDelete
  37. OH, WHAT A CHANCE BY MONTREAL OFF OF THE THOMAS TURNOVER!

    ReplyDelete
  38. He is basically Dick Stockton. Cole has been a staple of HNIC but there's a reason why Hughson (FINALLY) got promoted to lead commentator over Cole.

    ReplyDelete
  39. It's a final in Detroit. 4-1 Red Wings

    ReplyDelete
  40. Boston scores on the empty netter on the one-timer!!! GAME OVER!!

Cole seriously has no idea who scored. It was Kessel.

    He said this:

    "Lucic coming in!!! THEY SCORE!!"

    Fight!

    ReplyDelete
  41. A hospital bed currently awaits Jack Edwards and his sadly exploded head....

    Boston 4-2.

    ReplyDelete
  42. The Nats will finally get a win. They're beating the Phils 8-2 in the top of the ninth.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Wait, you mean to say that this moron was actually the lead announcer for CBC?

    MORE FIGHTS IN BEANTOWN!

    ReplyDelete
  44. AND THE NATIONALS HAVE WON THE WORLD SERIES!!!!!!

Oh wait, it was just their first regular season game. Never mind.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Not a moron at all. But like Pat Summerall he's faded miserably.

Bob Cole and Harry Neale were Hockey Night in Canada.

Now we've moved on and it's Jim Hughson and Craig Simpson.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm liking Chris Cuthbert on TSN thus far.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I've been informed from another Phillies fan that Raul Ibanez sucked again.

    ReplyDelete
  48. WHAT A SAVE BY KIPRUSOFF! SPECTACULAR!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Love Cuthbert. I hear him on CFL games a lot.

But he turned into Brando when the Stampeders won the Grey Cup.

"This one is over! John Hufnagel and the Stamps! ARE CHAMPS!"

    ReplyDelete
  50. "I'm not sure if everything is currently connected for Patrick Kane." - Pierre McGuire

And what's with the ESPN like bottomline on TSN?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Pierre McGuire was great the other day on the Jim Rome show.

    ReplyDelete
  52. TSN is basically ESPN Canada JFein. The 4 letter bought a share of the network.

But they have their own Sportscenter as opposed to ours, but they don't seem to be as over the top as some anchors on ESPN.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Goal by Barker. 1-1 in the Black Hawks, Flames game.

    ReplyDelete
  54. "It just beats Miikka Kipruside, Kiprusoff on the short side." - Pierre McGuire getting ahead of himself.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Jeff Marek is a very good host for HNIC. Hopefully when Ron MacLean retires Marek takes Ron's place.

    ReplyDelete
  56. BTW JFein, all of the NFL games on the NFL Network are shown on TSN while NFL-N in Canada is blacked out.

Add to that the American affiliates they get they probably get about as many as 8 games in total in 1 week of football.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I may have to think about moving to Canada....

At home I have DirecTV and Sunday Ticket , but since I started college, I no longer have that nor do I spend many weekends at home so I'm stuck with cable.

Although I do have 2 CBS channels and they often do not air the same games...

    ReplyDelete
  58. "A late hit! Right by the Flames bench....er net." - Cuthbert

    ReplyDelete
  59. "A late hit right by the Flames bench, er, net." - Chris Cuthbert

He was right the 2nd time.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Think with your dipstick Jimmy!

    I hate that commercial.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Oof! It's SportsCentre! Haha, I love Canadiens!

I actually have been to Canada on a couple occasions, although the latest was at least 3 years ago so my memory of any Canadien TV channels is quite blurry.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Do you hate it because you don't want to think with your dipstick? ;-) Jimmy.

    ReplyDelete
  63. You guys interested in doing a Coveritlive for the draft? I'm reading the Redskins want Mark Sanchez and are willing to trade their #13 pick and next year's 1st rounder to Seattle for the #4 pick.

    HAHA!!! DAN SNYDER IS STUPID!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Apparently no one got the NHL's message that they are cracking down on "message sending" at the end of the game. First the Flyers and the Pens and now Habs-Bruins.

And Carcillo of the Flyers got suspended a game for his cheap shot with 7 seconds left and the Flyers were fined $10,000.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I was thinking about doing a live blog for the NFL draft. But I have to see what my schedule is up too.

BTW, I started up the live blog for the Ducks-Sharks game.

    ReplyDelete
  66. That'll be one heck of a live blog...

    ReplyDelete
  67. SCORE!!! FLAMES! AND IT'S NOW 2-1 CALGARY!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Okay, I will be spending the rest of the night over at 49er16's live blog over at www.keithssportsjournal.blogspot.com

See you tomorrow for more open thread fun!
