  1. Luca Sbisa is playing for Dan Carcillo. He is the 2nd youngest Flyer to ever play in a playoff game, behind only Danius Zubrus.

  2. "The Flyers were the ones hitting the post in game 1 and Malkin just hit the post here in game 2." - Jim Jackson after the Pens hit the post.
"That may not be a bad omen." - Bill Clement

  3. "Jackson jinx is working." - Jim Jackson after a whistle blew. He had just commented on how they were going an extremely long time without a whistle.

Jackson jinx = a running gag on the Flyers broadcasts.

  4. Wow, these refs are letting them play big time. This game is being called completely opposite to game 1 and it is very close to being out of control. I'm in favor of "letting them play", but this is bordering along the lines of insanity.

    ReplyDelete
  5. SCOTT HARTNELL SCORES ON THE POWER PLAY!!!!!!! 1-0 FLYERS!!!!

And Pens fans can't stand the fact that Hartnell scored after what happened Game 1.

    ReplyDelete
  6. What is it with teams and playoff beards these days? Sheesh.

"Simon Gagne called me Santa Claus today." - Steve Coates on his playoff beard.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Flyers are playing so much better in this game than they did in game 1. They have definitley woken up. Now if only they can stay awake then they will be in business.

    ReplyDelete
  8. "Fleury with the telescopic leg." - Bill Clement making no sense.

    ReplyDelete
  9. "There's that telescopic leg again." - Jim Jackson
    "And arm." - Bill Clement

  10. 1-0 Flyers after 1.

Crosby took a check at the end of the period and now we have a melee.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm going to finish up the BOTL semifinal.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Kelly Hrudey, I'm quite sure that's Garry Galley and not Greg Millen analyzing in Pittsburgh tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Ouch. Nothing like getting the name of the analyst wrong.

The Devils scored but it was ruled knocked in with a high stick. The refs are reviewing it but I doubt it will be overturned. And I'm right. No goal.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Parise gets redemption for the no goal. He scores a legit one and it's 1-0 Devils.

    ReplyDelete
  15. JEFF CARTER WITH A FANTASTIC SAVE!!!

Yes, you read right, the puck got past Biron but for some reason, Carter was behind him and he stopped the puck from going in.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well I stand corrected, it sounds like Greg Millen is in Pittsburgh.

    Well that's odd.

    ReplyDelete
  17. "Marty Biron just answered the age-long question when is half a puck enough. He got the inside part of it and that allowed the outside part to go wide." - Bill Clement......HUH? Correct me if I'm wrong but the entire puck went wide....

    ReplyDelete
  18. So I have the wrong CBC commentator listed then?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes, this was completely unexpected though.

It is still Dean Brown commentating.

    ReplyDelete
  20. 1-1 in New Jersey. Carolina has tied the game.

    ReplyDelete
  21. "Biron takes it in the midsection." - Jim Jackson

    Um.....is that even possible....?

    ReplyDelete

  23. Pittsburgh's passing seems a little off.

    ReplyDelete
  24. AN EQUALIZER FOR PITTSBURGH BY BILL GUERIN!!! 1-1!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Score Penguins.

I leave for 30 seconds to treat my finger that I cut by banging it against my desk and all of a sudden it's 1-1. Note to self: never cut finger on desk and leave to run it underwater again.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Pittsburgh fans stole our chant!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. 1-1 after 2 at the Mellon Arena.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Over to stream of Carolina and New Jersey. I've got the MSG+ stream with Steve-somebody and Chico.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hopefully I get CBC for the Blues-Canucks game. The Flyers-Pens game on the site that I am using right now is the Vs. stream and CBC was not used once last night either.

    ReplyDelete
  30. "You can play until 1 AM, just don't lose the game." - Bill Clement
"Wait. 1 AM? How about 2:30 AM? We've already been there before." - Jim Jackson

    /5 overtime'd.

    ReplyDelete
  31. HOW DID THAT NOT GO IN??? WOW! WHAT A BREAK FOR THE FLYERS!

    ReplyDelete
  32. DARREL POWE SCORES!!!!!! FLYERS LEAD IT 2-1 IN THE 3RD!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Pittsburgh is going to tie this up at 2-2 and force OT. I called it first.

    ReplyDelete
  34. ONIONS! WHAT A SAVE BY FLEURY!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. OH WHAT A PAD SAVE BY FLEURY!!! THAT IS THE SAVE OF THE POSTSEASON!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I really hope that you are wrong, SSR.....

Flyers and Pens have quite a history of playoff overtime games at the Mellon Arena....

    ReplyDelete
  37. Malkin is having another poor game.

    ReplyDelete
  38. "Lupul looping well." - Jim Jackson

    ReplyDelete
  39. "Little hack and whack fest between Crosby and Timonen going on right in front." - Bill Clement

    ReplyDelete
  40. Jeff Carter gets called for hooking and the Pens have a PP with 4:04 to go in the game.

    ReplyDelete
  41. MALKIN TIES IT AT 2-2 ON THE POWER PLAY!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Pens tie it! Malkin got the deflection in front and please excuse me, SSR, while I poof to the Seattle area and cut off his fingers. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  43. 3:06 to go in the game. And that goal went off of Coburn and then off of Evgeni Malkin and poor Marty Biron had no chance on that one.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Wow. Biron made a huge save.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Overtime in Pittsburgh!

Holy cow.....this was 9 years ago. Damn, I'm feeling really old right now. As you watch, notice the scoreboard...

  46. The immortal Steve Levy on hockey!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I've got that game with the ESPN broadcast on DVD, as part of the collection of the Flyers 10 Greatest games, a collection that came out to commemorate their 40th anniversary a few years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I miss the NHL on ESPN. And of course the only PbP guy that Vs. takes from ESPN is our favorite announcer in the world, Joe Beninati.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Back underway in Pittsubrgh!

And this is now currently the longest game thus far in the post-season!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Wow, Greg Millen was the announcer for CBC in the 5 OT game.

    ReplyDelete
  51. "Hal Gill just swallows people." - Bill Clement

That was followed by 3 seconds of awkward dead air.

    ReplyDelete
  52. HOW ARE THE FLYERS NOT SCORING?!

    ReplyDelete
  53. WHAT A SAVE BY FLEURY! I THOUGHT THAT KNUBLE WAS GOING TO GET THAT ONE!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes and Devils are also heading to overtime. Tied at 1 in that one.

    ReplyDelete
  55. It looks like the St. Louis-Vancouver stream is a Vs. stream and Vs. is still on the Flyers game, obviously.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Nice save by Biron off of the bad turnover!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Been switched to Blues/Canucks so will watch the end on Versus.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Wow, CBC switched? Or did they just do it for you because your local?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Local since it's the Vancouver CBC.

    ReplyDelete
  60. BRIERE IS KNOCKED DOWN AND THE FLYERS HAVE A POWER PLAY!!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. PENALTY CALLED ON PITTSBURGH!!! The Flyers are going on the powerplay and the fans in the Mellon Arena are livid!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Billy Jaffe, the goaltender for PIttsburgh isn't Biron.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Thank goodness for local broadcasts! And the Flyers have a pretty good crew too.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Knuble called for cross checking and it's 4 on 4! Pittsburgh will then have a power play for about 1:30!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Penalty on Philadelphia and if Pittsburgh wins this game, Academy awards will be given out for that acting performance.

    ReplyDelete
  66. 2-MAN ADVANTAGE COMING UP FOR PITTSBURGH!

    ReplyDelete
  67. OH MY GOODNESS!! A PENALTY ON PHILLY AGAIN!!!

A 5 on 3 coming in two seconds!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Offsides on Pittsburgh! Huge break for the Flyers.

    ReplyDelete
  69. OFFSIDES ON PITTSBURGH! WHAT A BREAK! Richards and Timonen were both gippy. But Timonen is staying on the ice.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Guerin scores and Pittsburgh wins.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Hurricanes win in OT forgot who scored via TSN :D

    ReplyDelete
  74. Devils are in trouble, if Eric Staal gets going...he will be a force to be reckoned with. Cam Ward was great tonight & the Canes showed up.

    ReplyDelete
  75. "First quarter went by in a blink of an eye." - Jim Hughson who is a poet and he didn't even know it.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I'll be out for a while. I'll be back.

    ReplyDelete
  81. SUNDIN!!!!!!!! COME ON YOU BALD HEADED SWEDE!!!! 1-0 CANUCKS!!! WHOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  82. SUNDIN FINALLY SHOWS UP FOR THE CANUCKS BUT THIS TIME IN THE PLAYOFFS 1-0 Canucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome back to the playoffs Mats!!!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Luongo is the goalie that is most likely to steal a game in the playoffs & he might do it tonight with a little help from that defense.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Important PK kill for the Blues to start he 3rd & Mason is playing really really well but he's facing a player named Luongo

    ReplyDelete
  85. I'm back. Canucks still lead 1-0.

    ReplyDelete
  86. "He got raped across the face by Roman Pollack." - Jim Hughson

Funny that expression does not come up in the EA Sports video games...

    ReplyDelete
  87. Jim Hughson & Craig Simpson are the voices the the EA NHL series on PS2 & X Box. Sadly Gary Thorne is the voice now for the PS3 & 360 versions.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Dumb penalty by Burrows.

    CRAP!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Blues PP coming up. They need to convert here, Luongo is on his way another shutout which would surprise no one.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Blues need to convert this power play. This may be their last real chance to get back into this game.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I've seen Luongo do this for a while now. Never gets old when it's not vs the Flames

    ReplyDelete
  92. Luongo is the savior.

COME ON AND GET THAT 2ND GOAL!

    ReplyDelete
  93. THERE IT IS BY ALEX BURROWS!!!!!!!!!!! YEAH BABY!!!!!!!!! 2-0 CANUCKS!!! WHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Burrows has probably just gave the Canucks a 2-0 series lead

    ReplyDelete
  95. I'm really beginning to think that this Vancouver team has a chance to win it all.

AND JUST AS I SAY THAT THE CANUCKS SCORE!!! BURROWS! 2-0 VANCOUVER!

    ReplyDelete
  96. "He just takes it hard and banks it in." - Craig Simpson

    ReplyDelete
  97. Off the bar by McDonald. PHEW!

    ReplyDelete
  98. The net for Andy MacDonald seems really small. This time crossbar.

    ReplyDelete
  99. St. Louis has had no luck in this game.

    ReplyDelete
  100. LUONGO YA BEAUTY!! COME ON!!!

    ReplyDelete
  101. The one thing the Blues have going for them is that they are back at home for the next 2.

    ReplyDelete
  102. A rare shot of the announcers on camera.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Did Joe Buck's endorsement of the Blues on PTI hurt them today?

    ReplyDelete
  104. And they have not been blown out and they have been getting some quality chances.

They've got a chance to win a game or 2, I think, if their defense and Mason do not allow an offensive explosion from Vancouver.

    ReplyDelete
  105. "Johnson gets beat cleanly." - Craig Simpson

Taking announcers completely out of context can be so fun sometimes!

    ReplyDelete
  106. Penalty on Vancouver for interferene.

    ReplyDelete
  107. HENRIK!!!! EMPTY NET!!! GAME OVER!!!! YES!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  108. SEDIN WITH THE EMPTY NET DAGGER! And the Canucks are 2 wins away from the western conference semifinals!

    ReplyDelete
  109. Good night everyone!

    NBA playoffs underway tomorrow!

    ReplyDelete
  110. Well, that was fun!

I'll have an open thread up tomorrow for each the NHL and the NBA playoffs, respectively. Thanks for joining me tonight. And I am left to hope that the Flyers can do to the Penguins now what they did to them in the conference semifinals in 2000.
